My car doesn't have the sport package and I thought I'd read that the airbags are different...however my steering wheel and airbag look to be the same configuration. Can anybody confirm for me that this conversion will work and whether or not I'll need any additional equipment? I do have an AT with the manual shift option but obviously no paddles.

Here's a pic.

It will work as long as you have the two female connectors that accept the connections from the paddles. I would bet you have them even though you don't currently have paddles, but the only way to confirm would be to remove your current wheel and check. Because you already have the multifunction buttons I bet it will work.

Airbag and trim from your wheel can be transferred to this wheel without issue.

I did a bit more research after I posted this. I'll remove my airbag today and see what kind of connections it has as well as the harness for the paddle shifters...I know Burger sells one so there are options...just didn't want the added expense of an airbag.

So I removed the wheel and took the following pics. Looks like I don't have the connections for the shifters? So basically I'd have to replace the clock assembly and get a wiring harness? I didn't remove the clock assembly as I didn't want to risk damaging it if I wasn't replacing it.

Thanks for any help.

I purchased the M3 wheel and paddles from this seller and had it installed on my 2009 135i Sport with Steptronic paddles (search my posts for photos). The pull-pull shifters are so much better that the push-pull plastic stock paddles; aesthetically, feel and function. The feel of the M3 wheel is also sooo much nicer than the Msport wheel. IMO a great upgrade and very reasonable for the daily enjoyment you get. Truly plug and play. One exception is that I switched the metal backing plate from the Msport wheel to the M3 wheel as that made the relocated airbag sit more flush.
