Extending Y-Cable (6FL) Ipod Hookup

I'm not a huge fan of where the ipod hook up is and I purchased a 3 foot extender hoping to bring the hook up out further and eventually make a custom dock like this..

The Y-Cable works normally, but as soon as I put the extender on, it will not work. The extender otherwise works anywhere else (standard ipod into the CPU etc..)

Has anyone found an extended cable that will work with the BMW USB/Aux split?

I would ask BMW, because where it sits now the phone is completely unreachable!

Wait - did I accidentally wander into VWvortex or something? Or www.scionlife.com?

( I kid, I kid...)

But seriously, why do you want to SEE your iPod while driving? The whole point is to have it secured and out of view whilst you control it from the head unit.

You could just buy an extension for the USB and auxiliary cable. Or buy an extension for the ipod side of the cable.

I use my iPhone.. When hooked solely with the aux input, I control both the Sirius app and pandora which does not utilize the head unit controls.. Furthermore, if my wife or friend is in the car, it is a bit cumbersome for them to have to reach under the armrest to change the channel.

Regardless, I found through trial and error that I can extend the USB and aux inputs and then connect the Y-cable.

Thanks, I tried the latter and it did not work. Instead i bought the two 3 foot extenders and they worked.
