Rear Fog Lights 128i

Thought I would give the Euro taillight mod a try... Just wanted to forewarn people that have 128's... apparently 2009 US Spec 128i's do not have the correct board to enable fog lights. (One of the small connectors that connects (+/-) that is soldered to the board is missing. It SHOULD have 2) in that small covering. Not sure if it applies to all 128's but it did for me.

My rear taillights have the 3 lights, but I guess that its not just a free mod like the 135's... Don't know why BMW would waste money making the boards with only 1 soldered connection while all other cars have 2.

The picture is of a 1M board. Mine is missing the connector where the arrow is pointing.

EDIT - Apparently that small white square is just an LED and should work without it... I was mistaken and assumed that it was required for the light to work... NOPE! just a stupid LED. Will have to retake my dash apart and do it tomorrow. At least ill be an expert at doing so afterwards.

Hey
I had the WHITE piece missing too, its just an LED
The Button works!!! I disassembled the switch, switched the white piece and connected the switch to try.

Refer to LEGO mod to get the button to work, i used an old pen and an old credit card, scissors/kinfe and glue.

The goal is to have the black circles, that are diagonal to the white LED area, be pushed down. You only need one to have button work, the other is a redundancy thing.

good luck

SERIOUSLY? I thought it connected the +/- and was required for it to work... UGH well I guess I have experience taking it apart now... Took me 30 minutes to figure out how to get to it, but now I know!

I was wondering what the white piece was... makes sense as its in the middle for the LED...

yep, like you I was depressed when the button didnt work after taking apart dash and removing the 3-4 plastic "legs" that held the fake button in place.

taking it apart and experimenting solved it and added an extra hour to the mod

i used tooth pics to pry the clips open, was quite paranoid

in the end with my pen &card solution the button is a bit hard to press. Takes a few tries to get it to work, sometimes one corner works better :/
A small price to pay for free safety, used it already 4-5 times in heavy morning fog, heavy rain and snow fall.

If you replicate my solution, when measuring the pen. Give your self a bit more room before you cut. This way you can file off with file or sand paper the un needed distance.
I was trying to have the card at same lvl as white piece but I think it needs to be higher to make it more sensitive.

I used superglue on the pen and card only. This way I can pull it apart to disable or adjust.
