Doesn't do anything for me. IMHO, it looks just as goofy as those WRX rear wings or a Pinto with a blower.

Why can't anyone leave the vehicles in their original form?

A pinto with a blower? Putting a BMW designed OEM part on the car has transformed it into a Pinto IYHO? Your credibility is questionable at best. lol

Metak: is the weight about the same as the stock hood or is the Active-E a tad heavier (or perhaps lighter of a different material was used)?

It's a normal 1er hood that's been put through a press to give it the dome - its identical in every other way

it is lighter, maybe by a small difference since the supporting frame under the hood is cut around the dome at the center, whereas it's covering the center of the normal OEM hood.

The ActiveE hood is metal. It is probably only marginally lighter bc it's missing one of the inner hood cross braces -bc the battery pack or electric motor(not sure whcih) in the ActiveE sits quite high.

Here are some pics I found of the ActiveE prototype being tailored. I think BMW must have reduced that black box in the center of where a traditional engine would sit. This must be a battery pack, since it has orange power cables atop of it. ? Maybe BrokenVert can take some under hood pics of his car.

production ActiveE... note how the center black box has been reduced in height.

I ordered the hood ... twice. The first hood I received was dented during shipping around the bulge. The body shop wouldn't even touch it because they would have to use body filler to fix the imperfections. I will probably list it in the classifieds. Maybe I will get a buyer. I ordered a second one and it is being painted.

How did you go about ordering it? Your dealer ordered it without you owning a 1E?

Dackel, thanks for the pictures.

Any one else notice that the cowl (black plastic piece just forward of the wipers with rubber weatherstripping running along its top edge) is different on the ActiveE vs the 1M? It looks like it is contoured to match the shape of the curved hood. Is this an issue?

Metak or Stratus, can you check to see if you have a gap in that area when the hood is closed?

See the following pics:

Cool your jets, Metak. It's a post that invites opinions, and I've given mine. There's no need to be personal about it.

Initially I thought these would look good, but somehow it looks disproportionate, as if the front of the car is highly aggressive and then the back just fades out. It must be how I'm wired - I like the new GT500s as well, but same thing - the hind quarters look so wimpy compared to the front.

I'm not sure I understand the power dome for the ActiveE. Is it serving a purpose (assuming that battery will eventually be less monstrous)?

I don't think it is a issue. I did not see any contact or rubbing issues with Stratus650 's 1M. IF you look at the inside of the hood... looks like there is nothing to seal up against that rubber gasket. I maybe wrong... but it don't look to be an issue.

Besides all this talk (might be!) moot. I don't think you can even order one of these hoods any more. Mr.Metak and Stratus were the pioneers on this - when people in the "know" here said BMW wouldn't sell them a hood. IF someone really wants something... don't listen to "others".

LoL, whose getting personal about anything here anyways? You decided to compare my car to a Pinto with a blower(that sounds more personal to me), that is your opinion, as ridiculous as it is. My OPINION is if you truly believe that and your not just trying to get my goat, you really have no credibility on the subject, that's my OPINION. But since you like the hood so much, here is another pic for you.

That's a good observation. There is a gap where the hood bulges, but I don't see any issues with that. If anything, it would give the heat from the engine bay a place to escape out and over the windshield. The hood in either situation is not 'airtight' anyways. The only 'issue', if you even want to call it that, is the sprayers/tubing don't line up perfectly to the hood. The mounting points are slightly different. So I just used some small black zip ties and secured the tubing to the AE hood and just popped the sprayers.
