Price Increase Jan 1 2009
BMW has announced price increased across the board of .7%. Bummer, but can understand the need. Will this affect cars that are on order with committed deals in place (ie. deposit down, car waiting to ship)?

"Sold in the US effective January 1st 2009" is not clear enough to me.
For instance, I've ordered my car 2 weeks ago (it is on production), gave a deposit and agreed on the sale price. Does it mean that I'll have to deal with that price increase? As far as I'm concerned that's the dealer's problem... What do you guys think? |

Just don't let them push you around like so many people, you are purchasing the car, and they should be catering to you. Worst case scenario, you pay $315 more for a $45,000 car.

I guess we'll see. My car is awaiting a boat now and should be here in 3 weeks or so. I was reading some old posts on previous price increases. That indicated BMW said any car ordered roughly 1 month prior to the date the increase went into effect did not have to pay the increase.

if you've already commited on a price, i'm pretty sure you wouldnt have to pay. if they change the terms of the deal, you can walk away.
i mean... if you couldnt walk away from an order like that, they would ALWAYS raise the price after you put the deposit down. |

Price Protection
BMW will price protect all bona-fide retail orders, with a confirmed production number, of the affected models that are wholesaled to Centers on or after January 1, 2009 and delivered to customers by March 31, 2009. To ensure that these retail orders are protected, a Center must designate the vehicle in the ordering system as a sold vehicle, with a customer name by the close of business December 31, 2008. |

In this case no worry. Such increase can be negotiated to be shared with a dealer, so only extra $125. It is a price of floor mats.
