Another Message Board, Benz > BMW
"BMW used to be without competition at the price range of their cheapest models but now you can get a better priced and better performing car from Lexus but especially Mercedes Benz. The Benz outshines the BMW whatever series cars in every way."
Do people research cars at all?

One might be able to argue about the Lexus being better priced and a better peformer (by numbers) ... but Mercedes-Benz??
Even with real-world pricing, I wouldn't call the W-203 as being better priced, despite the AMG body kit, 17" rims, half-leather/half-power seats... A base e90 325 has the 3.0 litre engine (vs 2.5 litre), wood trim (vs aluminum-look trim), RFT, dynamic cruise and other small details I can't recall...not to mention the e90 is better engineered/quality and don't forget free scheduled maintenance (whatever that's worth irl )

Can you get the c230 in stick?
Whatever the case, i do like Mercedes-Benz. My dads got a CL 500 on lease, but i assure you we will be going back to Porsche when the lease is up. My father and I were talking about the amount of driver involvement in the benz - There is none! Stomp the gas and away you go! I still do drool over the C32 AMG though!

Audi is more competition against BMW than Mercedes. There is a very good reason why most buyers who consider a 3er also consider an A4. And why the M3 is always pitted against the S4 (and RS4 vs. M3 CSL). The C-class is really not a 3er / A4 competitor. It is more of a daily driver / I want the most luxurious-sounding car marque under 40K. Even the AMG version of the C-Class fails to be as sporty as the M3 / S4.
Personally I think the latest C-Class looks better overall than the new 3er (better balance on the front fascia and rear lights), but it’s very ‘blah’ however, evoking absolutely no passion. At least the 3er (and the A4) has a love it or hate it sort of look to it that evokes passion. Jon. Jon.

Also, i really liked that way that the car up-shifted. It was very quick and right back into the meat of the torque curve.

If I went around and collected all the ridiculous message board comments about BMW or anything else, I'd have enough of them to fill a dictionary. Actually, I'd probably die before finishing.
Just the other day, I was browsing the IS350 boards when I came across some comments from some bumbling idiot about the "poor" reliability of BMW engines (imagine that - if there's anything BMW builds that's truly reliable, it's their engines! Anybody who knows anything knows that). His reasoning? The rash of spun bearings in early production S54 engines. Nevermind the fact that the S54 is a limited production engine found in only a handful of models; nevermind the fact that only the first year or so of S54 engines were prone to bearing issues. Give the village idiot a trumpet and he'll wake the neighborhood. What do you do about it? You ignore it. Let the poor fool wallow in his own buffoonery; no need to stick your hand in it. |

Mb's are only good with AMG models. The AMG models can compete with BMW.....might not win.....but it has a chance.
Audi...only S4 and RS4 impresses me.....other ones like A4 and A3 and TT feels like a japanese car to me. As a result.......BMW>MB>AUDI>all japanese cars.......in terms of the cars built OVERALL quality. |

I wanted a c class before I drove it and the 3er. It was a no-brainer. Anyone who drives both will most likely agree the 3er is a blast while the Merc is like every other car. If you have to have the badge- I guess get the Merc. But in my book the BMW roundel is one rung higher on the ladder than the three pointed star.
However, I wouldn't scoff at a SL600.

My family has a couple of late model S class Mercs in it. Big old luxo barges with lots of gadgets. I call them 'realtor's cars'. Both are in the shop more than they should be which is a sore point as the dealer is not close.
Nice to roll up at the pub in and nice to drive on the interstates for long distances but nothing inspiring or exciting (alas, neither are AMGs).

As well the interior is exactly the same (save for the Alcantara leather option and carbon fiber trim), which is BTW a better quality interior than the 3-Series. Also, you can’t say that BMW has better build quality then the other car companies mentioned when the new 5-series is plagued with tons of problems. Whereas other models are relatively free of major problems, like the new 3. At the same time MB has a huge problem with their electrical system (due to all the new, modern computer gadgets consumers want), which makes them less than reliable. The Audi TT is not a reliable car, but the A4 is pretty rock solid. BMW and Audi are about on the same level of build quality. MB is behind in 3rd place. As far as the German cars go. But, unfortunately the closest competitor to the 3 German brands, which is Lexus is made OVERALL better than anything else out there. Sure, the interior is not in the same league as Audi, but the computer system is better designed and built. Face it, Lexus is a more reliable car than MB / BMW / Audi. Jon. And oh, yes, a CL65 AMG with its bi-turbo V12 engine and 600+ bhp can wipe the floor with the M6.
