N55 / HPFP replacement

Hi,

Just heard that BMW are going to keep my car overnight and replace my HPFP.

Only thought I would post this as I have the N55 / DCT

Car was prone the occasional stall. Only happened 5 or 6 times since July last year. Often when cold and pulling up to an intersection. Would shudder, then just die.

No other symptoms I have read about with the HPFP – such as long cranks. Started first time every time.
*
Getting a DME update thrown in as well.
*
Plus a new reflector on the boot lid.
*
So there you go….

Hmm... if there are no classic symptoms of HPFP failure, then maybe the issue is DCT related? What did the dealer say that makes them sure it was the HPFP? Just curious

Yeah, dunno.... Will check with them though. Was angling for a free DME update, which I am getting.

There were a couple of other issues which I will elaborate on when I get my car back. Never know who could be lurking on these boards : )

I had my HPFP replaced, its a 6MT
Car was made June - 10
Symptoms include long cranks straight after the engine just shuddered at a stop light, twice.

So i dont think they solved the HPFP with the N55s

Call me a sceptic but I don't think it is your HPFP.

My money is on calibration of the DCT.

They replaced it on my 1st service around the 15,000km mark.

Ian, no idea what you are talking about

But it may explain that other issue we have been talking bout off line.

Re HPFP swap..... Agree, it could be DCT related, but seems strange BMW would go to the expense of changing it over if there was nothing wrong with it.

Most dealerships just assume its the hpfp since they were so bad on the n54..

Changing an HPFP is much cheaper than changing a DCT tranny - so why not give it a shot (BMW dealer thinking).

Agreed, but BMW Sydney is BMW and not just a stealership. So thought they might be a bit more frugal when it comes to swapping over parts just for the sake of it.

Anyway.... Just be glad to get the car back.... Been 3 days now.....

Will be interesting to see how it feels after DME upgrade. Have read some stories in the US section where some were complaining aout loss of performance.

I have been following the HPFP and there appears to be no reasoning. I was wondering if it could be fuel related or driving related. IMHO drive it hard and all the time and the HPFP wont have time to think about giving in

It is a daily driver, though it gets punted at every opportunity. Interesting observation was that the stalls occurred when just puttering around, and when the motor was cold. Was almost like the car wasn't used to such tame driving.

Petrol is BP 98 as I have a company fuel card, so no choice.

Ian, going to leave it a week or 2 to ensure there are no more bugs.

Was having an issue with the drivers side window malfunctioning.

Picking it up soon

My 2012 6MT N55 has build date May 6 2011.
74,000 miles. Starts fine, but occasionally stumbles when cold. When that happens, no boost until restart.
Just diagnosed with 10 instances of "Cold Start Fuel Pressure Too Low." They want to replace HPFP, but are keeping it overnight to see if they can duplicate the problem first.
Not thrilled, but at least they figured out what's causing it.
Also has occasional driver's door lock issues, but they don't seem to be related so I'm not going to worry about those right now.

I spoke to BMW Customer Service last week, and they said I don't qualify for any of their extended warranty deals.
