$50 Door Speaker upgrade for my E88

For this install I used Alpine Type-S SPS-410 4" Coaxial 2-Way. My first attempt at mounting resulted in windows that wouldn't go down but I found that these speakers will fit and sound way better than the factory speakers.

The first step was to remove the door panels which has been covered online before but you will need plastic panel removal tools and a torx 20.

Once you have the door panel removed you will need to remove the factory speaker. Next remove the factory grill by pushing on the plastic tabs. It should pop out without much pressure.

Once out you will need to cut the inside of the grill to give the tweeter some clearance. you can also pop the metal part of the grill out a little by hand to give a little more space.

Now install the grill back into the door

Next take out your Alpine speaker and with Pliers break off the mounting tabs. They are plastic and have a score in them already and break off easily. I used wire cutters to clean up the areas where i broke the tabs.

Next place the speaker into the factory hole. I recommend having the wire terminals facing up because this will give you more room to work with when installing the factory terminals.

Next use a hot glue gun and glue around the edge of the speaker till it is secure and has no movement.

The next few steps are optional if you feel the speaker is not secure as is:

I mounted a bracket to further secure the speakers which came with them. I needed to remove the crossover for it to work. With a screwdriver I gently pried off the capacitor.

I drilled a hole in the speaker mounting bracket to accommodate the 3 screw mounting pattern. then i mounted the plate over the speaker using the factory nuts. Last I hot glued the crossover back to the speaker.

The finished door panel and speaker is ready to go back into the car and your window regulator will clear the speakers!!!

Lastly to wire the speakers I used the included speaker wire and some splicers to splice the wires in . I suppose you could also splice the factory tweeters but I felt the Alpine sound great without use of the factory tweeters..

Can you attach the photos here or use another image service provider? Photobucket is literally the worst option.

I noticed much more dynamic highs and mids, especially at higher volume. I am running an alpine head units with a plug and play alpine amp. I have also replaced my rears with 5 1/4 alpines and a single 12" self powered jbl sub. The system sound is night and day. I had the professional cd head unit and the sound to me was terrible. I had bought the car used and there was awful line noise and a blown front speaker so I replaced everything since the car doesnt have xdrive
