I ended up with Miro 111 since vmr was out of stock. I couldn't be happier. Bought them at **********s. 18x8.5 et 20 in stock and shipped in 2 days. Looks like a great wheel.

I did go for Hakka 7 in the size:
255/40/19 for the back and 235/35/19 for the front. Not exact fit but the closest possible and should fit good on the original wheels. |

Newbie Question - not sure this is the right place to ask?
I'm getting my 1M next week or the week after depending on when it arrives at the dealership. It's cold here today... 39 degrees F. I have an awd with snow tires for the bad stuff, but what temperatures would you consider taking the stock tires out in. I don't want to wreck it on the drive home.
Question: What is the lowest temperature that would be good/safe to drive with stock tires? (assuming dry roads) |

Michelin North Z-ICE studded tyres... 235/35-19 front and 255/35-19 rear.
Warning: if you order original sizes wintertyre, its not suites for front. I had 255/35 on front and was it too big. 245/35 doesnt suites also well but 235/35 suites ok. |

@japi: Nice! Its almost the same setup that I have ordered. I have ordered Nokian Hakka 7 in the same size. Only difference is 255/40/19 in the back. How is the sound on spikes? Are the Michelin quiet?

I think its better when we got snow and colder air. Wintry air makes better for tires... |

I went wider in the back as advertised on their website. I also have the Dunlop 3D's which were great on my past 135i.

I think that I am going to try the same set up. Any others using winter tires on the original rims?

I actually wanted to use winter tires on original rims. Too bad it seems that only Pirelli makes winter tires(Sottozero 270 Serie II) of the exact same size as the original Pilot Sport2 and they are on back order country(USA) wide and won't be available until Feb next year.

theshiningnova: The setup I go for is very close to the original size and will fit the original wheels very well. You don't need to have exactly the same size as the summer rubber. You can see on Japis pictures that its a really good fit.
The Pirellis are very expensive and not good in snow. (if you have snow) Michelin also have a non spiked central european type winter tire like the Pirelli. Cheaper. |

Another note is that I think that just like Japi says: the real winter rubber with spikes will be a bit soft over 7 degrees celsius. When under 0 they will start to feel better. But winter rubber in the back on 255 with spikes will not be the optimal in handling. ;-) On the other hand I don't want to drive in icy conditions without spikes with this car. The roads I use to go to work are always a bit icy. If you don't have that winter conditions you should be fine with the central european high speed winter rubber. The perform best over 7 degrees celsius. Better handling on dry or wet but much worse on snow/ice.
The reason I go for my setup is that I don't want to buy another set of wheels just for the winter. Always a loss when selling the car and most options don't look good. Refitting winter rubber on the original wheels was the cheapest solution for me. Still need to sell my BMW performance wheels from my current 1-series convertible. (summer setup and selling it with the original BMW wheels that I used for winter on that car). Kind of tired of selling wheels! *laugh* |
