I peanut blasted all my cars at 50k, very efficient in cleaning the build ups and the peanut oil from all the pressure also lubricates everything. The only car it didn't go well with was my old X3, poor thing had an allergic reaction. You never know with these sort of things until its too late.

It is a good maintenance item on your to do list beyond 65,000km. The benefit is to maintain engine performance and fuel economy.
Cost should be around the $500-$750 depends who does it.

We charge $495.00 but we are in Sydney.

Has anyone in Brisbane had it done?

My car stutters and sometimes misfires when under load (JB4, 4th gear, 60km/h, accelerate hard). It'll also feel like it's missing ever so slightly at times when cruising at 100km/h on the highway. Not violently but it just feels like something is gently tugging the car from behind (best way I can describe the feeling is it is like getting bites from a small fish).

I've got 95,000kms on the clock. I've changed the plugs and the coils and it still does it. The HPFP was changed years ago and my car wasn't part of the injector recall.

Is the walnut blast a standard BMW service item (e.g. done during the 50,000km service) or is it something that has to be specifically requested?

I had my valves cleaned at Brisbane BMW. They did a decent job at a competitive price because they have their own walnut blaster.

I had a similiar issue, new O2 sensors and vanos solenoids and it was like a new car! (not to say that this is definately the issue in your case!)

And Perth! I'm going to try and attempt my own next month.

The car has done 95kkms and I'm scared to see how dirty those ports are.

Really though doesn't carbon build up to a certain degree make for a better sealed environment for combustion anyway? Are we being overly paranoid? I mean yeah it looks bad all gumped up with grime but how much does it really affect performance? You read these threads in the US about people who have night and day experiences from walnut blasting but is it really a placebo?

There's some really good information out there but the main gist of it is not that this should be done for power increase, but as a maintenance item to keep your engine running well. By all accounts, after walnut blasting people notice the engine runs smoother, idles smoother, has better throttle response. That's ignoring any power increase that may or may not come with it.

There's 100s of threads discussing it but here's one decent one: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=904658

If I were you I would delete that post to retain some credibility!

It's simple physics really, if the combustion process is missing a vital link (spark, fuel, air) things turn to shit pretty quickly.

The carbon buildup restricts airflow, thus hampering the combustion cycle.
