ONE of 740 Plaque interest? UPDATE!!!

While reading all the recent threads on the 1M here, it seems some people might be interested in the UK only 'One of 450' UK-specific plaque for the US. I think it is pretty cool to commemorate the extremely limited production number of this special car, but would be WAY better with a specific number.

Possible eBay plaque only $5.99 plus $1 shipping from HK(engraving not included)

UPDATE:

It's 'reverse' cut to go on the inside of the glass to stay protected from the weather or people with sticky fingers. It could be made with any color but I chose metallic silver.

2 Style Options:

ONE of final production#
or
actual # /final production

I think it's a great idea but the key would be to be able to get those vins and be able to find out exactly how many were made/sold to the US.

How much would something like this cost from your friend?

The other trick would be getting those VIN's from 1M owners who don't frequent the 1M forum too.
But I think it is a great idea. Perhaps we can involve someone from BMWNA to help with the plaques or VIN location? Scott?

If this thread holds...and it becomes a sticky or something, then you should add a space for

a) color
b) where is it located
c) special notes

the list would look like this

Vin.............................Color..........Sta te...........Notes

12345678912345678 ........VO ..........NY...............Garage queen, DD, destroyed etc etc etc

I think you would only need the first and the last. Not everyone in between would have to participate. I believe you could figure out what number you are by simply counting up from the first VIN#.

This needs to be official so there is no dispute or duplication on numbers.

Me counting and determining im #32 really doesnt mean much.

Its a great idea and Im on board, but we need an official list to correlate VINs with plaque numbers.

Maybe even go as far as to say once production is complete everyone needs to go to a dealer to have the plaque installed. This way its installed uniformly, not some putz deciding he would rather have it in some oddball spot.

+1 Agreed, If not its just like a sticker or decal sold at a store. Official list from BMWNA would be ideal

If it doesn't look "factory", it will look tacky.

Just my 2 cents.

At this point I'm against pressing BMWNA and BMW global for a maximum number of US cars (to be) sold, rather keep Kay's, "Unlimited ... " statement alive.

Only accurate to determine the total series number once production has stopped somewhere within the next year.

If I get an 1M, I won't be selling mine ever; I would happily help others figuring out sequence and such, yet no plaque needed to crown awesomeness.

There is no reason why it can't look exactly like the picture above. Also, there shouldn't be any duplicates as suggested because the VIN's will be unique to each car. Just need the first and last to make it work. Or at the very least a final production count that was sold in the US and you could do a 'ONE of FILL IN THE BLANK'. Plaque or no plaque, I would be interested in the actual # in the production line my car is.

IMO i think there will be more than 800 built for the US. they will build as many as there is demand for and I dont think there will be a hard stop at 800.

Well, I never said there would be a hard stop. 800 was an estimate I had heard several times. If you read my OP, I left it open....

There might be but according to the recent press drive event, Matt Russell's powerpoint shows 800 for us. Whether that's just for 2011 or a yearly unit cap is unknown.

I am definitely on board, provided that BMWNA is involved with the numbering. I'm with the opinion that if BMW is not endorsing, or stipulating numbers, placement, etc.....all it is, is a metal sticker you "stuck" on ur console.

It would be supercool to start a "1 ///M Registry".

It is actually something that we developed for owners of US RS 4s, where keep in mind the numbers as limited as they were, it was still a 'huge' relative to 1///M (~2000 sedans + 200 cabs). We have a great level of detail. (VIN, MY, Exterior, Interior, Options, Location, Dealer sold, even Forum ID, Mods, etc.) We were able to get some help from Audi USA, but we have a scientifically accurate number and very helpful summary stats (percentage of color split, packages, geographic distribution, etc.)

What's the best way I can upload an XL file? I can show you what I mean and maybe we can use that as the template/basis for getting a formal 1///M registry started.

How would you plan to get the BMW NA dealer network to buy into that?

One question, is the VIN number country specific?

Can I look at a VIN number and tell whet the delivery country was?
