BMW N54 PPK2 owner install, dealer code?
I have an opportunity to get a PPK2 for around $800. A guy bought it and just never got around to installing it and would like to sell it now. It is indeed the PPK2 by part number and the huge box. He said everything is there. So im wondering if anybody has any experience with installing it themselves and then paying the dealer to code it? I have a Procede tuner but can I run it with the BMW software? Do I even really need to code it? I understand there was something about the bigger fan but an electric fan is an electric fan. All I can see would be that it may have different operating parameters?

I installed the PPK2 a few years ago. There's no need to flash the new software for the fan to operate. That being said, I don't know if the new software changes the parameters for when the fan kicks in, or the speed of the water pump for that matter? I had the dealer flash the software that comes in a red envelope as part of the kick. They charged me 1 hour of computer time (a little over $100).

Yeah I found the install instructions on a post somewhere. Didn't seem to difficult. My thoughts about the fan were the wiring harness is included because the fan has a higher wattage rating which the OEM wiring may not handle? Thats where I get confused when I hear that I have to have it coded for the fan to work correctly. That seems ridiculous to me. The cooler seems pretty straight forward. For $800 I couldn't buy the individual parts from the dealer. They run about $1000. Coding for the performance software I dont really want as I have a PROcede tuner which I like and have heard provides more power than the OEM performance software anyway. I guess not many people DIY this. |

I had install the PPK2 in my car and didnt code it because I had the Cobb install and work like that perfectly for a year. Then when I sold the car I took the cobb away and went to the dealer and they coded for free.
The PPK2 with the AA intercooler was for me the solution for the high temps. |

Yeah im looking through the kit now seeing if i can just get the parts to install the extra cooler but finding the parts have been difficult. Looks like buying a PPK2 kit and installing it myself and keeping my PROcede is the way to go for now.
