e46 M3 Insecurity

Hi,

How many times have you come across e46 M3 insecurity? My current count (about 6) just went up by one.

You know, when an e46 M3 sees your 1 and instantly blows away in the distance, or gives you testosterone, or red-light races you.

I typically ignore them, and let them go deal with their issues alone.

That would be one heck of a close race, though.

Yes. There is a guy with an E46 M3 vert. We check out eachother's cars and they are both awesome in their own rights.

haha actually, oddly enough, I ran into a guy with a car very similar to mine today, he gave me thumbs up and I gave him a nod. totally different attitude.

I don't like street racing, too many variables. I take it out on the track; then I can smile when doing the speed limit.

That hasn't happened to me once... although I have gotten a few thumbs-up from E46 M3 owners. Honestly I love the E46 M3, one of the best looking cars ever made, and I think the 135i kind of carries on that spirit, though without quite the razor-sharp directness of an M3.

It's the E36 M3 drivers that want to show me up. Hah.

I've had several E46 drivers who wouldn't even look at me while stopped at a light, and I've had a couple of others make conversation. Just like the 135i, owners have them for different reasons, some are cool, some aren't. A few years ago I lusted after an M3, then passed it up for a less expensive, faster car (before the 135i). I was damn close to owning one, so I don't blame anyone who does. It's still one of the best looking modern BMWs IMO, and I'd like to have a clean, bone stock one someday to put away.

I've owned both. I agree that the e46 M3 had a killer body style. But in comparison to the 135i it felt heavy. The 135i feels "spry" compared to the M3. (even though the weights are very close)

Likely it was the stance.

Just one man's opinion.

Alex

I still dont like the e46 m3, that saying that the style grows on you? Not on me, either I like them when I see them, or I don't

I still have yet to see one at a light

I have an online buddy who drives and E46 M3 and he and I get into pissing matches all the time, him with dire predictions of me destroying my drivetrain, snapping axles, with my "tuner mods" and me saying I could stomp him with nothing but better tires and a sway bar on any track, and him saying... bla bla bla. We have a good argumentative friendship.

My neighbor with an E46 M3 convertible never likes loosing to my bloated 335i, so I try to give it to him at every opportunity.

Nah, most of them aren't negative about the 135i at all, even though I wouldn't argue if they said the M3 body styling looks better than the 135i.

The OP must run into a lot of A-holes. The E46 M3 guys who have seen my car have been very interested in it. If there was one BMW I would consider trading my 135i vert for it would be a E46 M3 vert..although a M1 would also be on the list (70s version or future version).

Was taking a left turn and an e46 was making a left into the intersection to the left of me. He flipped me off through his sunroof the entire way through the intersection haha.

After long self-debate and even ordering a 135i (customer wanted the same exact config so I let him take it), my next car is an Imola E46 M3. Just love it! Most of the guys around here with M3s that I've spoken to about the 1 say it's their next car because it's very "mod-friendly."

I disagree, the 135i feels tall and narrow, and while the E46 M3 does sit too high (visually) in stock form, it is much, much more stable and confidence-inspiring at very high speeds. The 135i feels quite nimble, however, and the torque offsets the weight of the car better. I owned 2 E46 M3's and an E36 before the 1'er.

you are the first person I have ever heard criticize the styling of the E46 M3, you are entitled to your opinion, mine is that the E46 M3 is one of the best looking cars ever made and possibly the best looking car BMW ever made, there is really not a bad angle on the car and it is perfectly proportioned.

pic of my '06 when I had the RG41's:

that was one sexy car and I miss it a lot

if you were on these forums when they came out, you would have heard a LOT of it, they rounded everything, and took away all the square lines

there was a lot of complaining, not as much as the bangle butt, but there was a lot

None of these newer bmw designs grow on me, either I like them when I see them the first time, or I dont

This just happened to me today... E46 M3 slowing down so he can try to blow by me... I mean they definitely have the better looking ride, but I do sense a bit of insecurity when it comes to the performance of their M3s. He's lucky I was lighting a cigarette while he did his little flyby, because he would have been in for a surprise if I wasn't.

I've was at a light with a E46 M3's on the road shortly after I got my 135 and he chatted me up at a light...just interested in how I liked it...didn't chat any shit. No we didn't go racing down the street.
I have driven a E46 M3 on a race track (never against a 135). I find the car very good looking and lots of fun to drive. The E46 I drove had an exhaust system and intake on it plus a set of track tires. Even with those engine mods that car wouldn't be faster in a straight line then my stock 135. My 135 has more power down low and a broader powerband. The E46 M3 has a narrower powerband but pulls stronger in that powerband. The E46 M3 pulls hard right to redline...plus it makes a great sound. The E46 M3 is a sweet track car. Even though it would not pull on a 135 on the straights, it would be able to pull in the corners. The balance and handling is incredible, the brakes are good and it was a blast to drive on a track. If it matters...I used to do some professional racing and still actively do driver training at select track events so I do have lots of experience on a track. The E46 M3 is an good track car.
