Leasing & Modding?
Hell guys, new to bmw's, although one of my best friends has had them in his stable since ive known him and only grown to love them!
Im in the market for a 335i coupe, I love what I hear about the power (stage 2 for example making 330whp on a dyno) and the luxury/classiness of the car itself. I didnt think BMW's had enough kick, but now with the twin turbo option, I think its only a matter of time. I own a 05 Subaru Impreza STi, its got 40k, im thinking about selling the car, collecting about 30k along with those mods and invest that money into something else since I seem to change cars alot, and im sure that once the 3 years comes around, It will be time for a change, maybe the m3 Anyways, I wanted to lease the 335i. I was wondering if any of you guys lease the 335i, and mod it. How are the dealers about that? I hope to become a part of the community within the next few months, thats would be ideal...just looking for some support and your thoughts. I know I have a disease, and keeping it stock is just not an option. From what I see, a lip kit, springs, and some nice wheels really set of the car to the point where I think I would be content.. Yours thoughts? |

I lease. If you're not going to go crazy modding then you'll be fine. My dealer is fine with simple bolt on's. They even were generous enough to change my headlights from halogen to euro xenons per this forums DIY. If you did the ///M or ACS kit, some springs(these can even be removed if you don't sell off the OEM ones) and rims which can also be taken off before turn in then you should be just fine. All my mods are listed below, I'll be taking everything off except the tint, interior xenons, aluminum pedals and exhaust tips.

Well I have said in the past im not going crazy and I really havent.
I just need the basics, and always have felt to mod the car alittle bit to personalize it to my satisifaction. For example, those bbs's set your car off! Xenon Lighting is a must for me, I customize lights for a living Last edited by LightWerkz; 05-04-2007 at 09:47 PM.. |

Ive always modded my leased cars and as long as youre cool with the service department, they dont care. When I signed my lease papers for my previous Audi, the general manager came over(he knew I had a modded M3) and told me the first thing I needed to do was get it chipped. Obviously he knew that there are things that wont hurt the car and that it will be fine to take in for service. Ive never seen a dealership refuse warranty to anyone I know unless they upgraded their internals. Im sure others will chime in here and say they were denied, yadda yadda. I was just stating my OWN experience.

of course, and I appreciate you sharing your own experiences.
Ive always owned japanese cars, and feel its time for a change. Never once did I bring my car to the dealership for any work, but with the bmw, seems like they take care of everything. Now is this 100% true for the most part? And what kind of monthly payments are you guys paying for the 335i? On bmwusa.com the price is 509/month I believe for 36 months and $3359 due at signing. I dont want to not get any options, but the xenon lamps are a must, and also other small things im looking into getting. |

hello!
I guess im known over in the bmw world too, hahah! Yeah it is time for something more refined and luxurious, I feel ive outgrown the STi in the last two years, and since ive been moving at this pace with cars, I think the best idea is to sell the car as is, collect the money, invest that and just lease a new bmw who knows, lots of thinking to do, this is a relatively new idea, but bmw has also caught my eye. |

Modding with BMWs is somewhat different than with other makes. Most (but not all) BMW dealers in NA are "full circle" dealers. This means that instead of retuning vehicles to BMWNA at the end of the lease, the individual dealers keep them, refurbish them, and put them back on their own lots. This means that as long as the mod is acceptable to the local dealer, there is no problem. You may want to inquire about the policy of your local dealership. Mine said adding a spoiler was OK, aftermarket wheels would also be fine as long as they were BMW reps or high quality types like BBs and like. If you want to change a shift knob or remove the amber side reflectors or do black line, you will probably be OK. I would check before doing BOVs or custom exhausts. My CA did say that they would expect me to return the car with run flat tires. It is all up to the local dealer unless they are not "full circle". I wouldn't get to radical or put on a Procede mod without intending to remove it at lease end.

hah i dont think you're known yet! but you sure will be soon if you can pull some of your crazy light mods on bimmers too
i asked you about the diameter of an angel eye mod that someone installed in a rex a few weeks back, but uhh... i decided to buy a bimmer instead of bother with that crap haha no but really, the value here shot up a ton when bmw decided to make some real power on their 3 line. can't wait for mine to arrive. keep in mind if you're going to order it it'll take 2 mo or so since you're on the east coast (that's a good thing, current wait in california for example is 4+ mo i believe) you should show off some of your work in a seperate thread, introduce yourself a little... im sure the stuck up crew will flame you a bit for putting angel eyes on other cars but whatever seeya around

THe price they have on the site is based on MSRP. If you get discount on it the payment will be lower (obviously). |

Light, are you interested in a dealer recommendation in NNJ?
I have been dealing with the same person at my dealership for a long time and would be happy to introduce you. Send me a PM if you wish. Also, have you considered European Delivery?

+1 on the comments about certain mods. A BOV. loud exhaust or mods that might shorten the life of the engine or turbos would be frowned upon. Since the dealer plans to sell the car locally, they plan to service the second buyer. They don't want that buyer to have problems. I would add poorly constructred body kits to the list of unacceptable mods, even if they are generally acceptable by the mod community (personal experience).

It would be a shame to add a por constructed body it to any car I own, im a strong believer in you get what you pay for.
Im even suprised alot of you guys here do alot of replica body kits and wheels, strange. No bov's for me, maybe a nice exhaust, thats about it. Last edited by LightWerkz; 05-05-2007 at 09:18 AM.. |

You can save upwards of 10% on your purchase. Your only out of pocket costs are related to the trip itself.
