BMW PPK Cost?
I called a couple of BMW dealerships to get quotes on the stage 1 PPK today. Both quoted around $1717 + installation. When i asked how much installation was one said $600!! the other said they will have to call me back.
Why is installation so expensive? I was under the impression it's just an ECU remap, how difficult can that be? What am i missing? |

Not to sure but it will take most of the day to install and I think BMW charge $220per/hr
also if there is any glitch they would have to deal with the dramas. Should Read Up on the aftermath of PPK 1 |

The problem is that the BMW install instructions supplied to the dealer will state the worst-case scenario for the time required to perform the coding.
As an example, my dealer told me it would take 8 hours of coding to upgrade my Base Stereo to the Alpine coding on my 135i. It took 45 minutes. However, my dealer quoted me $1600 to install because $200/hr X 8. Just make it clear that you understand that the quote is worst-case cost but that you expect to pay only for the actual coding time... |

I dont think you need to get it done at a dealership, you can go to a trusty independent BMW mechanic, would be cheaper too.
Pete did my software update.

JB4, ProCede, or Cobb might be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative for you (although warranty is void).

I did briefly question why it was $600 to install and he said there is a lot of work involved.
Will wait to see what the other installation quote is before i make a decision but it does seem overly expensive, don't want to void warranty so that's the main reason i'm looking into the PPK. |

The dealership wont know about an ECU tune, or atleast not most brands if you uninstall it before handing them the car.

Umm.... OK.. If you say so... Not really sure what you're saying, but sure!
I get really sick of people asking this question... I think it's safe to assume that if someone specifically wants a PPK then they have already considered and rejected the aftermarket options... Quote:

I think the question gets asked, Angus, in case the OP doesn't know about the aftermarket options. BMW rammed the PPK down my throat when I was buying and that's all I thought there was for a while...until I met the 1Addicts!

I wonder.........if you bought it from the US and got it installed here would they be interested in any warranty claims after the fact? I know some places wont install anything unless they have ordered it from their own parts dept as the installer is bound to warranty the part even if you provide it.

I've read that with the PPK it also induces a bit more crackle and pop from the standard exhaust, can anyone confirm this? |
