The N55 JB3 connects to the boost solenoid (which is an output, not sensor), and air flow and 2 pressure sensors (one of which has air temp also). It tells the DME that air flow is less than what it actually is, and the DME responds by increasing boost to get the desired air flow. It then reduces the boost seen on the other two pressure sensors to prevent overboost codes, and adds a little more duty cycle to the boost solenoid to prevent high boost duty cycle codes. It should be noted that this method has no RPM reference, the tune knows only know, airflow, and air temp. It does not know engine RPM and cannot do any tuning maps based upon that. Because it relies on the DME to lift boost in response to low air flow, if the DME changes the way it responds to the reduced air flow, the tune will work differently. Therefore, BMS were very lucky that recently the DME changed in a way that enabled them to get more boost using this technique. Until this DME update they had been limitted in their ability to run higher boost levels. The N55 Procede (like the N54) control boost independantly. Because of the CAN connection, it can report to the ECU exactly the boost it is targetting to keep the ECU happy, but the Procede can do what it wants with boost. Procede boost control is completely isolated from any DME involvement. Therefore it is not sensitive to DME changes like the JB3 is. Procede also uses the crank sensor for RPM (and ignition control), so maps boost as a function of RPM. So the Procede N55 works in the same way as Procede N54. I am pretty sure that N55 JB4 will eventually follow suit also when it is released. |

Yeah but sometimes people take it too seriously... they get upset, take it personally, chuck a tantrum, make excuses and then I get told to keep my opinions to myself. Then I get upset, take it personally, chuck a tantrum and then realise that I was pointing out the facts and have nothing to worry about!

Totally thought the thread was gonna become a shitfest (ala USA forums) however I am glad to see we're all too easy going at heart to really have a go.
LOVE IT.
