BMW's are Sirius, but it doesn't matter anymore Sirius and XM are one and have been for quite some time now.
Yes, you have to pay for it.
You need the Sirius Tuner ID and call them to activate it.

So I hit the "Audio" button to get to the sat menus to find the ESN. But the Sat option isn't there. The car does have the "0693 Satellite radio preparation" package.

What am I missing?
Is there another way to find the ESN?

You have the prep, but it needs to be "unlocked' through coding with a BMW "Activation code CIChigh SDARS retrofit".

These guys do the whole thing remotely and include a 12 month subscription to Sirius.

Yeah, OP didn't mention that he couldn't find anything for SAT in his first post. BimmerTech did mine as my car was "prepped" as well. I got exactly what I paid them for. They are great to do business with.

+1 for BimmerTech. I will admit that allowing someone access to a PC via some remote tools I'd not seen before was a leap of faith on my part but nothing odd and they did the job remotely and communication was via Skype.
