I think it would be a pretty poor "investment," if one of the goals was to recoup the money spent on the upgrades at the time of resale. How much more a 135is will sell for than a similarly equipped 135i (less the specific "is" features) in the resale market is unknown; it could be a few thousand dollars or it could be just a fraction of the original MSRP price difference. When it comes to heaping options and upgrades onto an existing, used, car like a 135i, without the badges, I think you would get very little if anything back.

I would only do the mods if having the mods on the car provided enough satisfaction to the owner during his period of ownership. This will be viewed as a modded car, not a 135is at resale.

Don't forget the pedals, though somewhat debatable on the DCT. Think you can buy the letter s from Bimian, too. hehe.

But ya, as champignon was saying, especially nowadays, it probably doesn't make much feasible sense throwing all those expensive parts on a used car unless you really think they'll mean a lot to you. The IS was just a last hoorah and what I consider a "value package" of bmw slapping like $4-5k worth of their performance parts catalog on there for what turned out to be $2400 more for me the way mine was equipped over a comparable 135. Considering I planned to put the 313s on a 135 m-sport, made more sense to just spring for the $2400 and get the whole package.

I'd definitely recommend the performance exhaust though as it pairs well with the PPK, which I think you had flashed if I remember correctly. I get compliments (and complaints) about it every day. Such an intoxicating sound and i've never been an exhaust person or ever touched the exhaust in my 20+ years of driving sports cars.

Agree. The 313 wheels are my favorite so far. My stock exhaust w/ PPK gets compliments so I'm on the fence there. The rest are inexpensive or planned upgrades.

Now that all said, the next step from IS is to add some //M suspension bits. Ohh-la-la!!

If you think the stock exhaust with ppk is good, with the PE it's 10x better. Almost everybody who has ever gotten the PE loves it. A couple people wanted even louder and ultimately went a different route. But the two were made for each other and go together like peas and carrots. Makes these things sound like italian exotics and a very unique sound. Only problem is it will make you want to drive fast and hit the gas just to hear the noise.

As funny as it sounds the one thing I prefer about my stock exhaust is the black exhaust tips. Not a fan of chrome. Maybe I could paint it with high temp paint. :dunno:

There are other people who like the black tips better too. I thought I preferred the black tips as well until I got the PE installed. To me, the PE tips look much better.

On the 2nd page of this thread they talk about keeping the black exhaust tips:

My PE had the OEM shadowline tips installed...

Here's the DIY thread:
Install Shadowline tips on Performance Exhaust

Yours is looking equally good, though your wheel is turned. Perhaps to show off those pilot sport a/s 3's? =P

Seemingly the universe has taken radical steps in a clear attempt to make sure I hang onto and keep driving my car. Plus, this way we can both have one. I just crossed over 14k earlier this week. How many did yours have on it again when you got it? Just over 15k or so if I remember correctly? I'll always love that carbon black with that subtle blue in there. Just a classic BMW color that I seriously considered and sat there staring at both a carbon black and mineral grey IS side by side before finally deciding a couple days later and ordering.

M3 rear subframe bushings and control arms were 'next' on my list for a long time.

Several of us have installed the Performance Suspension kit, which is an effective upgrade for a daily driver and really helps button down the vehicle dynamics. Understeer is still very present, but the ride quality isn't really compromised. It eliminated a lot of the floaty feeling I had with the stock M-Sport suspension.
