ha. the whole car is dirty! this was an impromptu shoot to test an idea for lighting a car that i've been wanting to execute for a while now.
however, it's not so much that you see dirt on the wheels, it's the lack of light on them and grain from pushing the exposure in that area. :]

i shot my boss' 911 as well, but that thing was so dirty, i don't know if i should show it to anyone. haha.

nice shots. i'd love to see some with a dark car (something with more reflection). the white or silver looks a bit like plastic or putty, kind of cheap looking. but in terms of what you were going for (this was a study on lighting, right?) i think these are really interesting shots.

dark, like black?
black would need to be metallic, i think - or really super clean. black just doesn't absorb as much light, so all you would see are the smallest of reflections. or, a really HUGE light source - like a lit 40x20' white sheet hung above the car.

i shot my boss' black 911 the same way i did these, and it just doesn't look as smooth.

Thanks for posting the extra pics. I now have a pretty good idea on how to replicate with my own E82...just need to wash the bomber
