With the 335 coming out, possibly a 325/328/335 lineup, with the 328 costing less than the current 330i, and the future of the current 330i being uncertain; do you think it is a bad move to purchase a New 2006 330i now?

If you can't wait, buy it now. And the 335i is still not 'official' yet. You don't know how long you'd have to wait. In my opinion, the 335i is not going to arrive anytime soon. It will only come after the coupe comes out. So... next year at the earliest? Again, this is MY SPECULATIONS. And the 328i are just rumors.

I would recommend you to wait, but I personally won't be able to wait and would go with the 330i.
The new 335 coupe looks promising though. |

At this point I am of the opinion that you are really not interested in buying a car but just chatting up the subject with as many people as will engage you. "With the 335 coming out..." Who told you that the 335 was coming out? I haven't heard a thing from BMW. If something does come out as has been mentioned it will be at least a year or more. Add that to the six months you have been asking these questions on the various forums and that’s two years you could have spent driving a real car as opposed to asking for everyone else’s opinions and worrying about the latest-greatest thing that just might possibly come out two years from now. I say sack it up and buy something or let the subject drop. If you are serious about buying some kind of car then show some self-confidence and make a decision and then just freaking live with that decision. There is no perfect choice and there will always be something better coming down the pike. We all like to make informed decisions but there is also such a thing as over-thinking a situation and you currently have waaaay too much information in the form of the people’s opinions. Unless these people are going to be making your car payment you might want to take five minutes to figure out what it is that you want, act on that and, as adults do, live with the consequences of your decision. |

Without question, I am waiting for the 335, or whatever might have more power. In my own opinion and the way I drive, the 330 does not have enough power, and compared to the new competition, not enough value. I don't like the competition enough to buy them (I used to own a G35, and don't like the IS350), so I will wait.
Also, if you have good transportation now, and can wait, it makes wise financial sense to wait. If you drive a car that is paid for, every month you wait allows more money saved that can be put towards long-term savings or an extra option on that new car when you do buy it. Lastly, I want to encourage BMW to build a more powerful 3 series (HP AND torque, but below the M) that has better value. If I buy a 330 now, I am telling them that their current product is ideal, and their current marketing and product strategy is working. Your opinion is heard loudest when speaking with your wallet, and I want them to feel a little pressure. I am assuming that their are many internal marketing and product discussions going on right now at BMW, and I want to influence those that might be borderline about introducing more power in the 3 series. |

Well, it depends
I think I made a mistake by getting a 330i but I had no idea that there was going to be a 335i. If it's only a coupe I won't care b/c I only like sedans. But if it's a sedan, I'll most likely trade my 330i in.

I ordered a 330i cos I DON'T WANT a turbocharged petrol engine.
If a want a turbo, then these days I should buy a diesel. Turbocharging completely ruins the fine throttle / drive balance of a normally aspirated engine just for the sake of cheap horsepower. Not for me. |

The 330 is agreat, athletic car. Why wait? Ultimately only you can decide, however it is not as big a deal as you make it out to be.

seriously, if you tell your dealer how things car and that you know how things are (rebadging coming up) try to get him to give you a really good deal. unless you do want more power in which case wait for the turbo.

If you can afford it, buy now. No one has a solid idea as to when, or if, the 335i will make it across the Atlantic. No one has any idea on the price. Lastly, this is the first turbo, nevermind twin turbo, gasoline engine that BMW has produced in thirty years. It will take a year or two of production run to work out the bugs.

I have the same decision - 330i now or wait for the 335i. There will always be new models coming out - it's almost impossible to plan your purchases around an "anticipated" new model!!! Personally, I am going to wait to see if BMW announces the 335i at Geneva. If not, I will assume that the 335i will not come out this year and will go ahead with the 330i. Hopefully I can take advantage of the "next" model upgrade when I piurchase my next car. This stuff can drive you crazy. Enjoy what you got, when you got it.

Do a 2 year lease on a 330i...the rates are great right now. If the 335 comes out this fall then you only have 18 months to wait. Also, after the first year of the 335 BMW should lower the money factors and maybe make better deals. Being the first in line is always more costly with BMWs.

I have been all over the map from the 330, 530, TL, M35, and G35. I like reading the opinions of others, so I am glad there have been a lot of threads about buying or not buying, and about what to buy. It really does help. Plus, I have found 99% of the people to be GREAT! If I go with a BMW, I am leaning toward not waiting, but just buying a 330i. It is awesome car! Plus, even if a 335i comes out and they discontinue the 330i, it does not make the car any less of a car. By the way, Edmunds called the 2006 e90 PERFECT! |

If I'm really in the market to buy a car now, I'm not waiting for 7-9-12mo for a new model that hasn't officially been announced yet. If I'm just pussy footing around, and doing some internet dream shopping, of course I'd wait. A year represents almost 18-20k miles of driving for me; that's a long wait.
Now, If had absolute specific delivery date on the new model, I'd probably go down and put my order in. Just still too iffy on when/what the new model's going to be. |

and just to make it more difficult, Infiniti is releasing their new G35 Sedan at the NY International Auto Show in April. It’s rumored to have a 3.7L engine and over 300 hp.
If you consider AWD, don’t discount the 2007 Subaru Legacy spec. b. It’s been rumored to have a new 6MT, aux. input, HID headlamps, and more exterior color choices. I think the 2006 330i sales have slowed down big time. BMW is still offering 2.9% financing on the 3 series through the end of the month. They would offer such competitive financing if the demand was high. Dealer inventory here is Chicago is high which is not good for the seller. The same car I test drove over a month ago is still sitting on my dealer’s lot. If you want a 330i, you should be able to negotiate well right now. Just think of how easy it will be to negotiate on a 330i when the 335i model gets officially announced. |
