New Car...135is

Greetings all, I'm going to the dealership in a few hours to pick up my new 135is. I'm actually trading in my 128i and E53 X5 as I don't have a need for two vehicles. I'm going to miss both cars, but everything I was going to do to the 128i, is already on the 135is so it would be dumb not to. I'll post back with more pictures and stuff.

Cheers

Congratulations, I know you must be excited. Be sure to post some photos later. I think you made a great choice. Your throttle response might me a little slow for the first 1500 miles or so but gets much better over time, at least it did in my 135i, your 135is might be different though due to PPK. Once you bond with the car and get to know it like your right hand it is awesome.

Congratulations. Will be interested to hear your impressions of the 135is compared with the 128i. I'm an old BMW guy and have totally bonded with my new 135i after 6,000 miles - the power from idle on up is lovely and addictive, and the whole package is playful and easy to live with. Nice E36 325i in your garage. Enjoy and report back.

The Lemans looks great. What do you think so far? And just curious, did the dealer heavily discount it since it's already been discontinued and the 2-series announced?

Well I work at Tischer BMW and I'm the one that PDI'd (pre-delivery inspection) the car...and on the test drive, i fell in love with it. So I put it in my bay and hid the key. I got a bunch of discounts (employee, loyalty, year end, etc) so it turned out to be cheaper than my 128i was when I had bought that.

Now I will say this. I've officially owned the first year model and last year; the most introductory model and the highest model (not including the 1M of course). Honestly, it doesn't seem THAT much faster than my 128i. The power band pulls for much more of the RPM range, but overall its pretty much the same. I do miss fog lights though. The new one is fully optioned out, while my first was the bare minimum (but with the sport package...not M Sport).

Your car looks sweet! Congrats again!

What do you think of it compared to the 128i so far?

I was absolutely in love with my 128i for its simplicity and reliability. Not once has it left me stranded or had anything fail. I had the radio replaced a few times because of dying pixels but that was it. I would buy another in a heartbeat. That being said, this is quicker, better looking in my opinion, and the options it has now are ones i was going to retrofit to the prior one anyway so its really a win-win. The exhaust on the thing is sheer perfection. Not too loud, not too quiet and has a nice rumble to it.

Funny, I also had one of the first and one of the last, getting a bare bones, no options 135 in April 2008 and now a fully loaded 135is. What's scary is how different the MSRPs were though - $36k for my 135 in 2008 vs $50k for 135is in 2013.

The sound of these bad boys is amazing and seems to only get better as it soots up and you put more miles on it.

I think where you'll really notice that added power the most is on the freeway as it'll go from about 50-80 in a blink of an eye with just the tiniest of inputs on the gas.

i've noticed that actually. So much to the point where I've had to set the limiter to remind me that I'm going too fast. How many miles do you have on it now? I just hit 100 lol

Ya, it's really dangerous (in a good way!). As I was getting on an empty tiny freeway here today, someone was being annoying and going 60 in the left lane, and moving my toe just a hair I blew past and suddenly I was doing 85, but still felt like I wasn't moving and had to coast and let off the throttle...don't want any tickets.

I just hit 2900 today.

I love that characteristic about this car! You can leave the car in 6th and pass someone with ease. And you can blow past all those annoying left lane bandits like Greg's encounter, or people that try to gun it when you try to pass them.

Must be nice to work for BMW!!!

That is a great story: doing a PDI and getting bit by the bug! Car looks great, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. You're right, the 128i has all the right moves and gets up to speed quickly enough for anybody. Sometimes I wish I could stay in the gas and feel the pull for longer than a few seconds at a time!

Congratulations again!

Hey thanks everyone! Mileage is at 200 now haha. This thing is a hoot! I've been looking at the other thread...was there ever a final number released of these things?
