135 Euro Delivery :)
Hello all, just thought I'd post a few pictures of the car and a bit of a review; I recently took delivery of it in Munich.... A 135, basically loaded (including the m-sport) and without the steering assist..
It was a pretty awesome trip; I was there for Oktoberfest, which was basically insane. Through the course of one (rather exceptional) day there, I drank 1.5 gallons of beer. No driving the bimmer that day... First I just have to say that I love the Autobahn. The lack of a speed limit in many places is great, but it is also paved sooooo well compared to the roads here in Southern California. And, the other drivers on the bahn actually have road manners. Those things made for a bunch of fun driving, especially after the break-in. I put 2200k on the car by the end of the trip... The car is great, perfect for the autobahn. It accelerates as well as my 335 did, if not better. This one was a manual tran, however, and that actually made for a much more enjoyable experience overall. The manual in this transmission is actually different than the one in the 335, and better IMO. The stereo sucks. I mean, seriously, it kind of pissed me off that it was a nearly $1000 extra. Of course, I'm glad I got it because if it is this bad, I can only imagine what the stock rendition is like. OK, I am a bit of an audiophile, and I might be expecting a bit much especially for a 'sports' car. But my 335 had a better system, with the Logic 7 or whatever. The problem I have with it can be summed up by saying they've gone 'BOSE' with the whole thing. Accentuating the bass and treble, making it sound dynamic, at the expense of actually BEING such. And an interesting observation my friend and I made pertained to the ipod kit... We both agreed that the sound from the ipod was inferior to the sound from the CDs. And this is quite subjective but it also seemed 'moody' in that sometimes it sounded better than others. Well, if I wanted a better system, I guess I should have bought an Audi with the B&O setup... That's enough about that.. I enjoyed a bit of mountain driving in the German Alps, where I really got to check out how the car handled the twisties (see pictures). For most of this driving, the experience was pleasant: the car is very fast, brakes well, and has great road feel. Unfortunately, on tight corners, or when really pushing it, there is quite a good deal of understeer. I'm planning on ditching the run flats and putting a sway bar in the back, and hopefully that will help. This is not a track car, but it's a fun car that I'll enjoy driving through town and through the canyon on the weekends. On that note, Nurburgring is good fun. I rented a racecar (why put my own new car through something so intense?) and did a few laps.. Wow, what a great experience, highly recommended! The navigation was great 90% of the time. Sometimes, however, it would randomly decide to freak out and give bizarre directions that were completely inaccurate. I reset the nav and it went back to normal. Dunno what happened, but hopefully it doesn't become a regular issue, else that's a dealer trip. I love the color. I love the car, it's great. It's a lease, and maybe an M3 lies at the end, since I am already craving 400 hp without voiding the warranty... For now, this is more than adequate, and quite fun! I could write forever about this three week trip. We went to some amazing places, and had some amazing food. Highlights were probably Cannes, Lyon (both France), Heidelberg, Munich (especially the insanity of Oktoberfest) and the entire wine region. |

Congrats! Drove the pass on 9/9/09 after taking delivery on 9/5. And I agree with you on the Premium Hi-Fi. A bit of a disappointment. But the sound of the exhaust made up for it.

Good luck on the wait for re-delivery. It's enough to drive a person crazy.

Driving our M-Sport 128i at 135 MPH legally on the Autobahn really was fun. Keeping it below 70 MPH at home is really difficult.

Glad you had a good time!

That is actually the best part of the Autobahn experience - beyond cruising at 100 MPH, beyond the European scenery, it's the fact that you'll never get stuck behind some idiot cruising 5 MPH below the speed limit in the left lane. Plenty of people drive slowly in Germany, they just do it in the right lane, where they're supposed to be. And if you come up behind someone in the left lane who's going slower than you, they don't get defensive or passive-aggressive about it, they just yield to you and move over into the right lane at their earliest convenience. |
