There's lots of oil-related threads... You should do a search before starting a new thread, huh?

The Pennzoil Ulta looks interesting. It claims to keep engines cleaner than any other oil which is needed for the common issues with direct injection.

BMW recommends Castrol oils. I would use that. You can buy the oil at any BMW dealership. What ever oil you use... make sure it says (on the bottle) "BMW Long Life 1" or "BMW LL-1".

I recommend Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40.
http://www.motul.com/us/en-US/products/52 The biggest issue with our motors is carbon buildup on the top of the valves. It reduces power and eventually causes poor running engine. The cleanup to fix most people are doing is walnut blasting which costs around $500-800. It usually becomes critical around 50k miles but I've seen reports of people in the 25k range having to get it cleaned up. The oil catch can is supposed to help alleviate this issue. I really don't think it eliminates the issue though. A BMW service shop owner and very well respected BMW race car builder recommends this specific Motul oil to prevent the buildup from occuring. Here is a link with his explanation: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...8&postcount=24 Here is a link to the whole thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717474 It's a BMW approved oil so based on a person I highly respect in the industry it's the oil I'll be using every oil change. |

My shipment from Tischer just arrived: Motul 8100 5W-40 oil, magnetic drain plug, Ate super blue brake fluid, and BMS catch can. This 1M is going to be a happy camper after this weekend!

If you have tons of free time you can also descend into oblivion by reading all the N54/oil info at BITOG...

And gas is gas, tire is tire, exhaust is exhaust etc. Let's shut down this Forum all together, since all these talks and advices and shared experiences are futile anyway. I need my medicine right now. Any would do!

But oil really is oil, any major brand you buy in america has been standardized to meet the same requirements, of which are all exceeds the need for any street driven car. Any company that puts extra additives into their oil essentially is just throwing more stuff into your oil that your engine wont use during regular use. Some of these additive will extend the life of the oil, but most people change their oil before it is needed anyways. No one oil will magically make the engine wear less or last significantly longer than any other.

Sounds like a good purchase! I may need to order the same stuff if I do end up keeping the 1M.
