I have fitted a number of these and the only mod you might have to do to the rib is using a heat gun to warm up and push it up if it hangs to low.

Cutting is for butchers

You have to relocate the front temp sensor cut the plastic that held it in place and trim the air guide or leave it out

Its quite involved to do it correctly but by no means a hack job if done right.

Great IC for stock turbos but struggles with upgraded ones or in high ambient temps.
Marty that Wagner Evo Comp 2 you would think should support a genuine 300rwkws right as that would be limit on 98 fuel

Stock Turbos mine ran 287rwk on 98 or 330rwk on straight e85

359rwk on Rb turbos on 98 and 421rwk on e85

The restriction is 98 on the stock turbos just the same as upgraded turbos

If you are going to over spool your turbos safe limit which is about 17psi and 14psi up top

Yes your can push them further but your also increasing the egt's and in turn increase the discharge temp of your turbos and lowering their life span

I would say set your goals a little lower 285rwk to 298rwk with a dash of e85 in your tank like 10litres to every empty fill up with 98 and around 17psi with no taper to redline will give you get close to the desired output

Others might want to argue you can push them higher and i'm not disagreeing but if you want them to last 17 psi is a good balance between power and reliability.

I was about to order the EVO 2 Comp from Wagner's site then I came across this:

http://www.wagner-tuning.com/product...0001113-5.html

I guess no one has tried it since it isn't out yet. But does this size intercooler be good for basic mods like intake, downpipe + exhaust and Burger Motorsport ECU? Pretty similar to the size of jd75's IC. I'm living in a tropical country so ambient temp doesn't get lower than 25C with max ambient reaching as high as 40C and very high humidity too.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. That was what I was thinking too for but a bit worried about the pressure drop since I'm only running the stock turbos.

Since the oem turbos are very small and fast spooling, you won´t have a problem with the pressure drop. Evo 3 has been tested with FBO custom maps on OEM Turbos and performed even better than the VRSF 7.5 Plus, it´ll be a bit lighter

Interesting. Sounds like it's the way to go. 😄 How's the install, do I need to remove/trim a lot more things than the EVO2?

As for install, you need to trim more than the EVO2, yes. But not at the bumper, front bumper stays intact.
Install can be done by yourself, just take some time because you need to trim, test fit, trim again, etc.

Cool. Do you have pics of the install? Specially what needs to be trimmed? And does it it push the bumper down like the EVO2? My car scrapes a lot just with the stock IC.

I continue to have good luck with the Forge Intercooler. Uses stock connection points and was super easy to bolt-in. It pushes on the under tray slightly (as any larger intercooler will), but everything still fits just fine and it doesn't distort the bumper at all.

Yup, totally agree. There are limited options for direct bolt on FMICs. Sure there are larger units and some that have good data backing them up, but they ain't direct fit. If one is willing to cut the radiator support and trim the fan shroud then your options are expanded. These parts can be replaced but your taking more time and $. If you want to keep things whole then it's a no-brainer, FORGE wins.

Really need to check out the race core fmics offered by burger tuning and vrsf. Temps actually drop throughout a pull at reasonable power levels and even at 800+ whp it keeps iat rise to a minimum.

Hello,

i installed it too, but on a regular 135i N54.

I am curious about your review concerning performances.

I am about to get it checked at the garage, IAT are good with it, but i feel a small lag at low RPM, but great power top end.

No lag at all??

I have zero lag on mine. If you are noticing noticeable lag after install you probably have a leak in one of your connections affecting boost.

Okay thanks, Forge FMIC also?

Yes, a bit of lag in the 2000-2500 rpms range compared to the stock FMIC, but holding target to redline (18psi) when spooled.

I do not recall having any lag, car has a been moderately pro-tuned though. I would think that adding a larger volume FMIC has the potential to cause some negative outcomes (pressure drop, weight) in some cases but believe the positives far outweigh.

Okay, i installed downpipes, and two days after that i installed this FMIC.

With the downpipe i felt a better throttle response, or a better spooling. And when the FMIC was installed, it kinda erased the gain i felt.

I read somewhere that the Forge FMIC has a great cooling but a bit of pressure drop, that's why i wonder if it's normal. If i remember well, a person called "darkiem4" lost 0.5sec on a 100-200 kph compared to a Wagner or to the stock FMIC. (i may find the thread)

I believe it has been developped on a 1M but i am not sure, maybe it performs better on the 1M ?
