Anyone know what this is?

From time to time when I plug my key in this message shows up.. The car starts normally still and nothing goes wrong, key still works like usual.
Anyone know why this message is popping up?

Late 2011 model, so pretty much 2012. Not sure why the battery would be dead in such a short period of time

That's 2.5 years minimum more like 3 years since its been made, most batteries dont last that long, in my evo x the battery went after 2 years
in both remotes.

That's the cheapest thing you could try, battery wont be more than 10 bucks

CA keys have a replaceable battery in it doesn't it?

shouldn't be difficult if that's what it is.

I would have assumed the CA keys would still charge in the slot - i know a lot of other cars only have the slot for charging. Strange.

eBay cheapies I bought were shit.
Cheap as, but after 6 months I was replacing them again.

Spend an extra $2 and get it right first time.

Hmm well that's strange, my car doesn't have CA. So there isn't a battery to replace?

rechargeable batteries do wear out, they don't last for ever.

replace the battery its the cheapest solution to get rid of your problem, if its not then you could look at other options which will be expensive.

5 - 10 dollars on a battery is not going to break the bank but save you a lot of heartache if its only that.

its the cheapest option you have before it becomes expensive no matter which way you look at it.

If you don't have CA its not an easy procedure to change battery, done a quick search for you its quite involved.

If you have a second remote try that, you might have to go for an extended drive to charge it, maybe the battery in your remote is starting to die a slow death.

Other thing could be the sensor in the keyfob slot could be damaged, loose connection.

Being such an intermittent problem you most probably wont know what it is until it dies period and then your stuck somewhere waiting for BMW roadside or worse a tow.

CA keys do not charge IIRC. Plenty of info on Google about this. Really, just go to a hardware store or OfficeWorks and get a CR2032 battery for <$5 !
Damn. I paid $6 at the local watch repairer.
Now I can't get the extra prawn with my steak tonight!
