bluetooth work or not?

If you've gotten your bluetooth to work consistently (meaning all the time) with your phone, please post what kind of phone you are using.

If you've not gotten consistent results, please post that too and tell us how often it works and what phone you use.

My dealer contends that there is nothing wrong with the car's bluetooth and my plan is to compile this info and send it to them.

I have this feeling that if I bought a high-end japanese car I wouldn't have to prove my case to the dealer that something isn't working. Then again, it probably would work right in the first place and I wouldn't be having to prove things to my dealer.

Motorola E815.

Works every time, the only time I had to re-pair the phone was after the software update.

Have your dealer check the BMW bulletins. There is one out on the BT but no fix yet. My SA indicated she will call when the fix is out.

Nokia 6230i

Never had a problem, aside from forgetting to take it out of the cradle and leaving it in the car It has worked flawlessly, and I am very happy with it.

The only thing it doesn't seem to be able to do is call waiting caller ID, so when a second calll comes through, you don't know who it is without looking at the phone directly.

Never ever had a problem with the Sony Ericsson T610 on Orange in the UK.

Waiting to try out the Orange SPV C600 with Windows Mobile 5 (hopefully with the latest bluetooth profiles to allow address book transfer) next week.

I had an interesting experience with my Sprint Treo 650 today that drove me nuts for about 30 minutes. Whenever I use my 330i I usually make one or two calls in the car. The phone "always" pairs but this morning the car didn't see the phone. The day before I had been playing around with the phone because it can do so much like play movies and such. Somehow in that process I must have shut the phone part of the 650 off. The 650 is a rather complex device that is really 2 separate ones: PDA and phone. I never overtly turn the phone off, but somehow must have done it inadvertently. Once I realized this mistake and turned it on, the car saw it straightaway. I posted this primarily because I know some people were having issues with the 650 pairing. My belief is that if you have one of these phones and have the latest software from Palm, you should not have any problems with the BT in the E90.

About the original purpose of this thread, I believe any effort to make an issue of BT with BMW will be impossible to make a case primarily because BT can be implemented so many ways. If BMW certifies a certain phone to work on their website, I would take that to the bank. Based on the responses to the poll received so far, that is also a good indication.

The issue with BMW and BT, at least in the case of the motorola E815, is that the E815 is certified to work by BMW and Verizon. BMW has acknowledged there is an issue and has issued a bulletin to dealers. BMW now has a fix and I am having it done tomorrow. It takes a day and my dealer is giving me a loaner.

The issue appears to affect certain vehicles with certain TCU units and that has thrown BMW off because is works great in some cars. It actually worked great for me for two weeks after they replaced by first TCU. One of those sporadic issues that takes awhile to get a handle on it.

I am pleased BMW acknowledged the issue and has issued a fix. So we will see.

motorola v551 always pairs!
I get horrible reception at times, but that's the phone and my provider (cingular) not the car's fault.

That's fine as a specific isolated incident but it would be unfair to indict BMW's BT as a whole. If someone is having a problem with a specific certified phone, then the poll might be better served polling that phone to see what the user population is experiencing.

Interesting you should mention phone pairing. I have a Treo 650 through Cingular that would only work intermittently. I then purchased a BMW approved Motorola Razor V3. Still would only pair intermittently. All regardless of phone settings. Am now off to the dealer to have the car's software upgraded. Will let you know the outcome.

What is the vintage of your E90? Mine is 8/31 build and does not have Nav. My 650 just worked right out of the box.

Actually, the issue seems pretty consistent across phones with the same car. I was just speaking only to the E815 that I own but we tired another certified motorola (V710) at the dealer with the same results.

I would not think BMW would issue a service bulletin if the issue affected one phone and one carrier (heck just change the carrier and phone). Check other threads and you will find the issues goes across phones and carriers.

I am enjoying the car, but BMW needs to fix the problem.
