i think if we move the center vent back it will be too close to the other ones and won't be as functional, it needs to be closer to the radiator...

But, if there are design changes, I need to submit them IMMEDIATELY.

Glad to hear you like the hood, because I think function is more important than form, and those vents are strategically placed for FUNCTION first, form second.

I also think the hood is beautiful as-is... I just regret that we cannot do a built-in eyelid

yea built in eye lids would have been awesome... oh well
are the eye lids your making seperately gonna fit flush against the hood?

and i think it looks great the way it is too. IMO it look MUCH better than the E9x hood

Maybe better then the e92 v-35 hood. But, it looks no where as good as the e90 powerdome hood.

Yea right

I wish they made the V-35 hood for E90. Currently have the powerdome hood with vents. It's nice, but no where near as nice as the V-35er.

Ehh.. different strokes for different folks. My wallet is closed for the v-35. Now, if a powerdome comes out. My wallet will open up

I've hated the v-35 ever since it came out. Had the powerdome on my e90, and it was pure sex.

So to clear things up...

The production version will be carbon fiber with vents that can be opened/closed?

Yes that's correct, though closed vents is a poor choice in my experience - don't worry about rain, your engine will be safe.

hmm, have you guys put any aftermarket intake in that 1er w/ the prototype hood? The way the vent is positioned and the slope of the hood might allow water to run along the inside of the hood and drip onto to the intake, especially for the Injen and RR intake, hence, soaking the filter?

It's based on the aFe intake (which Nick has on his car).
This intake has the scoops directly over the right side of the engine, closer towards the center of the hood. This intake design will be 100% safe from water.

Someone post engine bay shots of the other intakes and we'll see how they will fare.
JL

Edit: I'm pretty sure it will be fine as the vents are very high up on the hood, but if they're not, you can always have one side vented and the other open... or just get Goretex socks for your intakes (DINAN used to offer them for their RAM intake)

explain the gortex socks? like the hood, can it come unpainted? what about an intergrated front bumper that has bigger/more exagerated openings with the lip included, and not included for some. carbon fiber, fiberglass or plain old oem material?

Can't the vents somehow be made adjustable?? I couldn't imagine that having a lever of some sort under the hood to adjust how open/closed they are could be super difficult for someone who already made a hood look that good...

i like the hood as is, we are arguing about looks when is should be function first. if they say the hood is put where the most heat is generated then i will listen to them. people who make these products aren't just making a fashion statement, they are trying to provide function as well as a pleseant form. I am all for the hood, now painted or unpainted is the question. I was thinking about how BMW did the M1 hommage. they used black to accent the aeros that functioned and so on. I think that would be a good idea if they left the openings unpainted in places. just my .02 cents. JLevi what do u think/know.

The hood in its entirety comes unpainted so you have the option of painting the hood sans vents.

I personally like the black vents. Function is form right?
