It really just boils down to what you value in your car and what your overall goals are for the car.

As OP noted - 1M's are not appreciating like they are in the USA. I know a lot of guys overseas and out of the USA have trouble or pay premiums for parts so for him it likely was cheaper to buy the 1M and single turbo it than piece for piece doing a true 1m conversion, cosmetic and mechanical.

A lot of people think doing a 1M conversion is simply bolting up the body work, widening the rear arches and adding m3 wheels, when in reality if you want to do a true 1M conversion with all the suspension, lsd, prop shaft, steering, MDM, etc. it costs significantly more.

But again, not everything has to make sense financially with car builds. For a lot of us, myself included, building a car is a true joy and it is about the process and there is an emotional experience with the entire thing. Its about learning, being creative, collaborating and doing something new. The experience of the process is as enjoyable as the outcome.

You don't need a true 1M conversion to flash, and you don't want a true 1M conversion to race.

But I agree with you, improving/rebuilding a car is joy for us who were lucky enough to be born without financial sense

And thank you for explaining the single turbo setup. I think I am simply used to twin turbo setup's for daily drivers/occasional track days, thus optimizing an all around driving set up, in effort to eliminate lag, pick up some low end power, and provide as much torque as possible.
For your purposes however, I can see how this would be ideal. Great work and I am glad you were able to achieve your goal! Always love seeing someones hard work and efforts pay off, and in your case, with tremendous dividends!
Chris
Thanks a lot man... For track and dd the twins are really the best option.. The torque down low is fantastic... I track very little so I'm interested mostly in top end power!!!

Cheers!!

Very cool set up man. In our opinion if you want power in 600WHP range you are ignoring the best turbo in the GTX line up for 600-640 level, the GTX3076R. This turbo will spool a least 500-700 RPM sooner and support the power levels you are at easily. With the efficiency of our motors with the DI we can see close to the turbo supported crank number at the wheels, so with the GTX3582R, you are running a 750WHP turbo to make 600-650WHP. You always want to go as small of turbo as possible to get you the power you want, the 3076 would give you back a nice little chunk of the midrange. Excited to see what you end up doing with this car.

You would pick up another 500-700RPM and support the same power level you are at now with a GTX3076R. That is THE turbo in the GTX line up for 600WHP

Thanks for the info man. I ended up going with my setup because I had this turbo in house already. Anyway I'm still hoping to push some more power so I think maybe this is a good size... Unfortunately it sure doesn't spool as quick as the smaller 3076, and I probably would have used that if I had it!!!

Congrats man! Are you from Brasília? A friend of mine is in BSB this weekend with his STI wannabe (Impreza WRX) to track it.

I haven't seen a hpfp improvement for the n54 yet... Maybe twin stock hpfp would work?

Vargas is working on a belt driven solution that runs inline to the factory accessory belt. Should be out sometime this year I think.

as already stated - check vargas thread history it should be posted here - a kit to run two is on the way!

Should be good enough to max out the injectors well north of 700-750whp you seem to be after

I'm thinking that grabbing a 135i then upgrading the suspension and putting a 1M aero kit on it would still have been less than this project by a large margin so I don't get that either.

Aside from that, this is an incredible almost shocking display of what the n54 can handle. Honestly it's amazing, and I'm actually thinking of selling my n55 msport e92 bc of stuff like this I keep seeing!!! Lol.

Good luck man!!!
I can relate as well.. Maybe in the US, where the car appreciated quite a lot, I wouldn't have gone this route... But where I live it hasn't and never will (there's around 25 1Ms in my country) so it makes no difference... Anyway the n54 is fantastic.. I came from n55 but the development and tuning for n54 is insane!!
I totally get your point man.....either way best of luck on the outcome!! You're the man!!

Guys, just an update on the car.

Went out yesterday for a few 27psi runs and blew the turbo. So I'm looking to go gtx4294r and try to make it fit. Should be good up to 950 instead of the 750 on the 3582r that I had...
Should be up and running in around 2wks time.. Will update!!

Putting a 950 capable turbo on a car that is not going to make close to that power is prob the worst thing you can do. ALWAYS ALWAYS run the smallest turbo you can for your power goals. With a 4294 the car is going to beyond laggy and you will not be using close to the power potential of the turbo. A combination for a car that is not fun to drive

Thought a lot about this... Anyway we think the 42 won't fit.. And going back to the 3582 isn't smart so the next up is the gtx4088r. Might end up going this route. Looked into the precision as well but I think garrett is the way to go. Only problem is TIAL don't make a housing for the 40, only 35 and 42. But we'll see...

I applaud you for staying away from PTE, a lot of people run them on these cars because they are cheap, have never been a fan of them for a few reasons. Why not just go for like an FP HTA 3586, will get you very close to 750WHP and will provide good spool and be a lot less laggy than a GTX40.
