brake squeal....

So I bought a CPO 2013 135i back in January. I didnt notice the brake squeal then until I was already on my way home. I bought the car at a BMW dealer 4 hours away so its not like I could turn around. I thought no biggie i'll slap some new pads on. I replaced the pads with OEM pads about a month later. The squeal started again about a day later after replacement. I then ordered some EBC Yellow stuff pads which I have used on my previous cars and had the front rotors shaved. Again the squeal came back about a day or two later. When I say squeal I mean so bad its as if I'm driving a city bus or something coming up to a stop light. So I ordered the stoptech slotted rotors all around from ecstuning. The squeal did come back but its not as loud and this time it comes and goes. I have no idea what else it could be... Any ideas?

silly question, but did you put on the anti squeal grease on the back of the pads when you were installing them?

I brought this issue to the dealer's attention when my car was still under warranty, and they somehow filed the pads to make the squeal go away. I don't know exactly what area got the filing, but it did the trick and they never squeaked again. I don't know if they'll touch your aftermarket parts but you might be able to get some advice from them.

You mentioned scheduled maintenance, are you still under the 4 year original warranty/maintenace plan? Pads are rotors are included with this plan.

BMW's are notorious for brake squeal. So much so that there's notices posted in my local dealer's service department explaining the "problem." Filing the leading edge of the brake pad should help combat this, but will need to be re-done as the pads wear. Did you use the OE shims when installing the EBC pads? I just swapped out the OE (Textar) pads to Carbotech's when I did the rotor swap, no more squeal and very little dust. Performance is great IMO.

Actually I didnt know that, which is why I went after market. Dealer told me today that I needed to replace rear rotors and pads even though mine are a week old.... They said since they are after market they cant warranty replace them. My 4 year runs out this month then CPO takes over but they are not covered under CPO.

I really enjoy the car but the brake squeal gets so bad its like I'm driving a bus. I'll probably sell the car if I cant get this resolved..

OEM brakes here. They squeal, too, when they're dirty. Properly rinsing the brakes down with water gets rid of the squealing until they get dirty again.

Don't really get any brake squeal to speak of. Maybe once or twice. Mine are pretty quiet. OE brakes.

Agree, definitely makes it sound cheap. I'd really recommend the Carbotech pads. I've been very happy with them.

"Noise Free" or Permatex Disc Brake Quiet on back of pads and wait min 2 hours but better overnight before install. Obviously caliper grease on tabs of the pads. I have no noise whatsoever on my Cool Carbons, never had any noise on OE's. Bav Auto probably have a video in their "blog" section.

Where could I find something that details where to file on the pad?

Basically just take a file, bench grinder, etc... and file down the leading and trailing edges of the pads to about 45 degrees.

Mine also make noise, seems to only be an issue under light braking when its cooler out for me. The jurid pads I took out were quiet, textar pads and coated Zimmerman rotors now. Should've used some crc disk brake quiet when I put them back together but didn't so back apart they come.

I get a loud squeal every morning I put the car in reverse. Been like this since I got the car months ago. I guess it's normal.

Try some hard braking like trigger the abs.

Your brake is squealing because she wants you to push her harder.

My 135i squeals after carwash and not being driven few days after wash. I doubt the contaminant on the pads or rotors cause the problem. OE BMW brake and pads love squealing, it's so common.
