Headliner/sunroof rattle

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a rattle in the headliner/sunroof area. It gets annoying when you drive over rough roads.

Yes, I have these rattles. I this owrked on a few weeks ago, but the rattle has come back...and it drives me nuts.

I am going to make an appt to get it worked on again this week.

I got a creaky/rattling sunroof as well. BMW wouldn't cover it due to my aftermarket H&R Sport springs! They said the suspension is too "rough" now with the aftermarket springs and caused the sunroof to rattle. Oh well...I'll live with it for now.

Well my car is 100% OEM at the moment and I still got the rattles so suspension is not the cause. My car has less than 8,000 KMs, it should not rattle at all. I've got to live with it for the summer though cause the dealer is 3 hours away now...

Yes I have that rattle too. I call it Steve. Steve has been there most of the life of my car.

Took car into the shop today for this rattle. They are going to replace the rain gutter that is part of the sunroof. At least this is the details they left on a phone message.

I also have this rattle/thud noise but it seems to come from like the rear top of the car. Like where the top of the rear seat meets the chassis? Anyone else suffer from this similar area, not even my 08 g37 didn't rattle this much, at least not so soon im at 3K miles.

mine is in the sunroof, and simetimes the sunroof will not close.

I have had this, the dealer had to replace the Sunroof Casssette. It was part of it at the far rear of the car that was making noise. I can pull out my paperwork when I get home, give out part numbers.

I have it. Annoying as hell. It's much louder when my roof it tilted up so it's definitely between the headliner and the roof-roof and it's just behind my head.

Sweet, that deffinately sounds like my problem, because the roof will rattle whether it's opened or closed. I live a fair distance from the dealer now so will have to live with it for a few more weeks...

I am still waiting for the new parts to come in from Germany...ordered 2 weeks ago.

I think my "steve" is finally gone.

The parts came in from Germany and I had my car at service on the 16th this month. They replaced the rain gutter assembly and adjusted the sunroof glass. Drove home and the rattle was still there.

Took her back two days ago, and they confirmed the rattle was still there. They left it in the sun all day, took her out, and could not hear it anymore. I had told them I thought it seemed temperature related. I left her there over night and they found the problem the next day. Here is what the repair order states:

Lowered headliner assy and resealed sunroof cassette frame retainers to headliner/cassette at mounting points, reinstalled components and verfied retainer noise no longer present.

I have not heard the noise since...it has only been a day...but I have driven on the roads that typically caused the most noise. She seems solid as a rock again.

Glad to hear that there is a solution. I will se what my CA comes up with when I get a chance to bring it in in a few weeks. I know that I'm anal about rattles and the like, was in a friend's really messy car and the sound of stuff rattling drove me around the bend.
