Do you need a customs broker if importing tires?
I have read a few posts suggesting some have had to go through the expense of getting their tires through a broker as they were held up at the port/airport for some reason. I had to do this with a rim once.
However some have not? Is it possible to avoid all this nonsense esp. considering I won't have to pay duty (under $1000)? |

I am pretty sure you dont need a broker if the goods are less then $1000, well I know I didnt on my Yokohama S Drives. If I remember correctly they were "inspected" at Sydney Airport but cleared almost straight away according to the online tracking system.

Make sure you get everything shipped to your door, its when they deliver it to the airport the costs start adding up with brokers being required.
And no duty will be payable if the goods (excluding shipping) are under A$1,000. |

+ 1 on what has already been said.
If you ordered from Tirerack and your shipment is under $1000 you will receive the tyres to your shipping address without having to do anything. During my first order I was contacted by Fedex via a phone call to pay an extra $90 to cover a quarantine charge. The idiots in Quarantine neglected to read the paperwork that was attached which declared the tyres as safe but I could not get out of paying it as they had already performed the inspection. This also meant my tyres were delayed by a few more days. |

How easy was it to order from Tirerack? Was it as simple as
- decide on your tyres - ask for a quote and detail where to ship to - give them your credit card details - sit back and wait (how long)? |

Browse the tirerack website for tyres and prices. The link for it is in the top right hand corner, they are a sponsor of this website. When you're ready to order PM Gill from Tirerack and he will take care of the rest. They only accept bank wire transfer as it is more secure for them.
