Question How do I import my car to australia

Is there any way I can import my car to australia
I've moved here just 3 weeks ago and I own a 135i in New Zealand for 10months now

Under the personal scheme it seems I can't because it says minimum 12months

Are there any other ways / categories I can import my vehicle under?

Cheers

Honestly I think it is so much hassle that you're better off just selling your car in NZ and buying a second hand one here. From a colleague who has tried to do the same thing, they are very strict on the 12 month rule, and even if you satisfy it, I think your car will need compliance plates, which are only available from BMW Australia, who have about zero incentive to fit them for you. Even if you can use your car without Australian compliance plates, you will take a hit on resale because it doesn't have them.

Better off just selling over there and buying here IMO.

Cheers for the headsup
F*** the system

Guess I'll look around for a car here
Thinking about the 2006 Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.8L in Manual, goes for around $16k used

Can't you take a couple of months to arrange the paperwork, haha.

Check here (if you haven't already): http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4371.asp

It's not worth it. Sell the car and buy another one here.

+1

GST alone will set you 5000+, if you manage to have them do an accessed value of less than the LCT which is unlikely.

Sell the other car and buy one here. Unless you don't plan to be here for a while.

Just out of curiosity - are the NZ prices a lot less for the 135?

I remember working in NZ after I had just bought my wrx and I was crying seeing what the equivalent was going for over there..

List price inc GST is NZ$86,400 for the manual ... equivalent to Aus$66,250. This excludes dealer charges - not sure what other on road charges they have over there. So prices are not THAT different.

The thing is I bought mine from a private seller for 65NZD which is 49aud
So won't my car be assessed to be worth less now, like say 60nzd which is 45aud

Isn't it then worth it?
The car is a 2009 model with 13,000KM on the clock...
What would it likely be valued at?

EDIT: just spoke to Vehicle Infrastructure Australia or whatever its called
He said a plain N.O.
Personal Imports scheme, minimum ownage/use 12months

All over rover
case closed
screw the system
