Heres my thoughts on the car after one week (approx 300 miles)
The ownership has met my (high) expectations. The car is wonderfully solid, and immensly rapid. Everyone has been complimentary about the look of the car "it looks much better than the pictures" is the common theme. It turns heads, especially with those "in the know" in traffic! Everyone loves the coral red leather which somehow looks much classier in the flesh than in the pictures. I love the driving position, the seats, the feel of the materials, the steering, the auto box (its just SO SMOOTH), [BTW - Two fingers to those who have been slagging off the auto box, its fabulous.] The engine is amazing. Acceleration is not quite as instant as I expected (the acceleration pedel just feels a bit tight, maybe its just the newness), however it more than makes up for it in all other aspects. It is effortless, and as rapid as anything you could reasonably hope for. I cant wait for the 1500 miles to pass so I can really test it. The ride is softer than I expected, it soaks up the bumps very well. One or twice I have noticed a bit of a "pogo stick bounce" (they mentioned this in the EVO review), it depends on the road type but there is a bit of an uncomfortable feel on ocassions. Its not a big deal, but I wish the suspension was just a bit firmer. I half expected to be wishing it was softer, so I was wrong there! Brakes - are fine. A bit soft for me, I was expecting something really special following the reviews. Idrive- takes a bit of getting used to, but the prof sat nav is very impressive. It even shows congestion on the roads. I got a little frustrated typing in some destinations (it only let me type in the first half of the postcode plus one letter, so you need to know the street names), but it is very clever. The voice is an american women if anyones wondering! The DVD can be heard whirring in the background whe you start up the car if youve got sensitive hearing. Voice Control - its great provided than you know the command you are trying to call up. This will just take some getting used to, a word of advice - dont try and impress your collegues witout knowing how to work it! Xenon lights - highly recommended I'm just getting to grips with the comfort access (which is something I will probably appreciate more the longer I won the vehicle). Do I think this is worth the money? Probably not. Hi-fi / USB - I went for all the upgrades I could here, and after some teething problems (cos I didnt have the correct lead!) I am very happy with the ipod interface. The sound is great, very clear, but, just lacking that "zing" that you find on hi quality systems. I would recommend the USB, but I have doubts that the Hi Fi prof is worth the money. Ive tinkered with all of the equaliser settings, logic 7 settings etc but I cant get it quite sounding right. Also ive had to move the soundstage over to the drivers side to make it sound better. Wierd, but true. Automatic wipers are good. Not sure why you need to press the auto switch everytime you want this feature. It should default on. Theres no boot lid opening switch in the cabin. There is a place for the switch by the drivers door but its covered by a small blanking plate. Its mentioned in the owners book as an optional feature which is stupid because you cant order it!! Fuel economy is showing 22.4 mpg after 300 miles. OVERALL 9 out of 10. Good effort BMW!!! Any questions?fire away! Cheers Paul |

PAULUK36.......
Interesting...I have the "boot" opening switch on mine. Do you think it comes with the premium package ? And with voice command.....always use "options" if you are not sure, to avoid embarrassment. Other than that I agree with all of your observations

We dont get the premium package option, hence no button I suppose Anyway my car cost nearly £40000 (which is nearly $80000) so perhaps we're not worthy, We do get the anthracite headliner though. BMW why oh why oh why !!!!!!!! Be consistent, the UK guys and the american guys want the same things, trust me. ----- BMW - You are winding up all of you future customers. Listen to your customers before we all buy audis. Amyway, i love the car by the way! |

Odd about the boot button. I took a pretty sparsely specced car, only sport pack, xenons and sunroof and I have the boot button.

To make things worse for you, it's not only the British, the rest of the world all get those wheels and clear corner lights.

Well it was either this or a Black Saphire with Lemon & manual seats (which I love just as much).
