Replacing H8 bulbs and found this.....

hey guys

so i went to swap out my OEM H8 angel eye bulbs with aftermarket GP Thunder 8500k bulbs until i decide which (more expensive) kit i prefer to get.

regardless, this was the first time i messed around with my headlights and opened them up, and i noticed that the bracket on the inside (closest to the kidney grills) was broken on both sides - i saw this before i even put the new bulbs in

is this normal? do any of you guys have this, or am i the only one? i have never had any damage on my front end that would cause anything like this to happen.





if you guys want/need better pics to get a better idea of where this is let me know.

how it happened I'm not sure. we sell headlight tab repair kits. send me a pic a little farther back so i can see which tab that is and the last 7 of your vin and i will get you a price and a part #. shoot me an email. ryanm@shellybmw.com

i dont think the tab is the problem it broke off the headlight unit itself

i was thinking about just taking out the broken peice and the headlight and epoxy them back in place and be good to go, but im not sure if the headlights would be covered under warranty since there was never a front end colision?

what do you think, as it sounds like you work at a bmw dealer based on your email address.

Why don't you go to dealer for warranty work instead of doing some work on it.

also - i thought about going to a dealer but considering the car is now at the body(not bmw) for the bmw performance front bumper not sure how the dealership would react to that. but i will defiantely give it a whirl when i get the car back

update - just spoke to my body shop that has the car, and they said that this is a common thng to have happen with even minor front end collisions like in parking lots etc, and my front bumper was hit once when i was at work so thats likely the cause.

they will repair the lights for me so i dont have to spend $$$$$$ to get new ones.

I notice I have the same problems. Never been on a head on collision and didn't read anything on the carfax..

I took it to the dealer I bought the car and they said bc it's due to physical damage that it's not covered under the warranty?

Can you share what you did to get it covered? Was this the shop you bought the car?

I have a 2008 with 32,000 km and mine are both fine.

i did not end up taking this to BMW for repair - i instead already had my car at a body shop so they just used some epoxy to glue everything back together - it looked/worked fine afterwards.

i would say its something thats easy enough to do yourself in your driveway at home.

Hmm, I wonder if it would be worth reinforcing goods ones with a dollop of epoxy as a preventative measure. Can you take a picture of what the repaired ones look like?

had the same issue , took my to several bmw dealers, and one of them eventually fixed it under warranty

bumping an onld thread here, but I noticed mine have broken. Would this kit from ecs work? use some jb weld or something to hold it on? http://www.ecstuning.com/ES172042/

mine is broken at that spot also. could you show a picture of what it looks like fixed and how they fixed it?

that car has since been totaled and is gone. the ecs kit posted above should fix the issue though.

I had a tab broken on my drivers side as well. Sucks, but its seems like its stable enough in there with one broken tab.
