Exhaust

Hi everyone! I would like to replace the stock mufflers on my 2009 BMW 1 Series 135i. I am currently checking out 4wheelonline’s collection and I am now considering to go for a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust. Is it a good choice?

Not really. I had the CP-E exhaust on my 2010 135i and it was great.

I'd be looking into brands that spend more time in this market like Berk, cp-e, Dinan, MadDad, Meistershaft, Corsa, Active Autowerke, etc... Are you planning on installing DP's (catless or catted) as part of your modifications down the road? If so, this should play a big role in which exhaust you choose for mids, axle-back.

I have Agency Power on my 09. I will eventually add the mid pipes. I can give you the info where I ordered it from, they gave me a great price & it sounds great.

It all depends on what you want from an exhaust. None of them will gain you any HP, but they will increase the sound/noise/rasp. For me it was a simple choice... I didn't want something that was gonna bang around under my car. I wanted a nice burble and pops - so that meant getting BMW's PE(Performance Exhaust). It wasn't cheap... but the car really should have come with this exhaust. Everytime I drive the car - it's just the icing on the cake! I'm so happy with it. A PE runs about $850, I think.

Here is my PE... with my main cats and secondary cats/N54 mids...

If I had a PPK tune, there would be even more pops and crackles.

I only have a German flash tune making, 380 PS and 520Nm of torque. I did have a high quality external mic mounted on my rear bumper near(one foot or so away) from the exhaust tips.

The PE really makes the 135i sound great. I really can't say enough good things about it. Everyone should have this exhaust on their car. I think it sounds even better on a N55 bc there are less cats - plumbed into the exhaust.

A friend of mine with a N55 135i has only a high flow AR cat(200 cell) on his standard OE 135i's exhaust... and it just sounds awesome(!) too. But his AR highflow cat also ran about $800 - and I think its not made anymore. ?

I would really recommend a PE for anyone who wants a better sounding exhaust. It's worth every penny. For me the PE(Performance Exhaust) is a work of art for one's ears! Its the most expensive frivolous mod - that I just could not live without! Its pure sex for my ears.

I almost put down an order for the PE, but cost wise in NZ was about 1.4k USD...best option by far, keeping it relatively "sensible" but found a second hand AFE for $270 USD...cost different was too significant...XD

Might order N55 mids later on for even more pops and crackles...

The N55 mid pipe(that delete the secondary cats) have no effect on pops and crackles. That is more from deleting the resonator at the end of the mid-pipe. I think that is why the PE deletes the resonator with the Y-pipe. I thought the same thing too... when I installed the N55 mids on my N54 - How wrong I was. Plus I think, I lost some HP & Tq down low(under 3K rpms). That's why when I installed my PE, I put the N54 mids back on with the PE's Y-pipe.

Your best bet is to buy a used PE y-pipe or fabricate something up.

Wow...

Thanks for sharing that bit of advice! You saved me from disappointment!

Problem in NZ is the fact that everything is very hard to source locally and specific parts for 135i are either "very rare to come across" or "very hard to sell"...because there just isnt that many 135i around...

Itll be hard to find a Y section but might look on Ebay...

Someone is selling second hand Agency Power mids and catback for about 820usd...would that be worth while?

Any good exhaust shop should be able to delete your mid pipe resonator ala PE Y-pipe style.

But don't you have any BMW dealers? The part number for the PE exhaust kit is: 18102208804 List price is around $1,200 but many dealers will discount the it. I bought mine from my German dealer for 660 euros(I think). They gave me a 20% discount.

Note: Hummm.... I just tried searching on line at Tischer(GetBMWparts.com) and leebmann24.de & schmiedmann.com - Looks like maybe BMW has stopped selling the PE for the 135i. ? I only see F22 and newer BMW models shown.

I really don't know anything about this exhaust setup. Maybe someone here can chime in with some advice.
