Question Another CHEAPER AE HID option???

What's up guys I came across this kit at DDM Tuning while looking on the site for D1S's and got me thinking if we could use this kit for our AE's?? It has the option of getting them with H8 bulbs, so it should work right? anyone wanna chime in on this??? They're only $50 and lifetime warranty!!!

kinda makes me nervous.. an HID kit for $50? how could it be $50 and all the other options, including LEDs be over $200.. you know what i mean? I would be kinda skeptical, but then again, I'm no expert........Simon!?!?

Hey guys I'll give you some insight into this. This will not work. The reason being is that every HID angel eye kit has an extra "custom" circuit that lets the HID kit get the power it needs.

You know how even with the stock H8 bulb, when the low beams (xenons) are turned on, the bulb dims. The circuit that is made for all the HID kits prevent the HID ballasts from getting too low of a power. If you were to plug the DDM Tuning HID kit into our cars for the angels it would work until you turn on the low beams and then it will flicker because the voltage is too low.

This is why kits like the one camaross sells needs the extra wires because it feeds power from the positive terminal in our cars. With the custom circuit in place our cars will not throw a code when we use the HID as our angel eyes.

Come to think of it I'm not sure the custom circuit is actually giving power so to say more so that we don't get a code. I'm not an expert but at least from my research into these things the DDM tuning kit alone will not work.

Oh and by the way the HID kit from DDM tuning is great. Don't worry that it is only 50 dolalrs. I helped install these in my friends EVO 9 and it came out great. His headlights are already of the projector kind so the cutoff was great and has no glare.

The great thing about his car is that there aren't fancy electronics like our cars so when you plug the DDM tuning kit into his car it gets full power all the time without a computer to intervene.

But anyway he's had it on his car for serveral months now without any problems.

LOL yeah when I was looking around too I was like man DDM tuning is so cheap it must suck. But after talking to one of my friends he was like most people just think HID kits are still expensive as they once were maybe a few years back or even longer.

The point is HID kits are cheap BUT you need the proper housing for these things. It might be good for those 128i guys who don't have xenon and might buy the depot lights are coming out soon. Alot of aftermarket headlights I've seen are projector housing but don't come with an HID kit built in and the ones from DDM tuning would be a great kit to use with that.

If someone were able to build just the ciruit from the camaross kit I'm sure you would be able to plug up any HID kit and make them work as Angel eyes.

to ad78...

I don't know what you mean by salvage...do you mean to use them for our low beams?

The kits that are 50 dollars are not D1S. To get even the D2S it is 15 dollars more and I'm not even sure if our cars will take the D2S bulbs to be honest.

So if you're asking about buying this cheap kit to get cheap bulbs for our cars...not sure if its possible.

If you had a different question in mind I'll try to answer it once I get more clarification.

These ballasts are fine but have issues at times, they would work with your angel eyes but you would need a harness + resistors to clear the errors. Like a forum member above stated that the voltage on the angel eyes drops once your stock xenons are activated. Resultingly the angel eyes running HID's WITHOUT a harness will flicker. So to fix this a harness is necessary getting power straight from the alternator. Could get a harness and have a cheaper angel eye kit I've done it already....

as long as the bulbs is of the correct connector then yeah you could do that. that is why camaross says you can change color later on because you could just buy a cheap bulb that has the correct connector and plug in new bulbs into your existing setup.

ive tried a kit like this a longgg time ago. trust me it doesnt do anything but throw errors. it will work, but it is not recommended for your headlights. the output is so bright that you can drive with only the HID AE on and still be able to see everything. i seriously do not recommend anyone using this option since for a little bit more dollar you can get something that works.
as they say you pay for what you get.
i use a regular h8 bulb and im perfectly fine with it.
