Weird Turn Signal Light Problem
So I installed LED turn signal lights in all 4 corners. After Install, fired up the car to check and the passenger side front light does not seem to be working. Tested it on a different socket and the bulb seemed fine. Worked no problem. Reinstalled the regular bulb and it works no problem. Sent it back to have the light checked. Everything checked out okay. Got it back today to reinstall and have the same problem. Any ideas?

Try your LED in that corner lamp again. This time rotate the BULB 180' in the socket. I bet the plus minus poles are off(for the LED).
PS: How about some pics!! |

Tried turning the bulb 180 degrees but it does not seem possible as it seems these 7507 bulbs are only meant to fit one way. Tried switching the sockets with the fronts and once switched to the other side it fires up fine but still the same problem on the same side. Any other ideas?

What kind of LED light bulbs? Are they from BMW? Do they have an adaptor socket? pis? Link?
You bulbs must be those P21Y(?) ones with the offset prong on one side of the bulb socket. The reason I said to turn them 180' was when I put some LED city bulbs(5wt parking bulbs) in my euro e36... I had to rotate one 180' in order for it to work/light up. Normal light bulbs don't have a plus and minus but LED's do! Dackel |

So... just ONE of your LED's does not work - in that one corner of the car. But that bulb works on the other side of the car? You only bought/have two LED bulbs right? OOops! I just re-read your original post... So did you try another working LED in that corner that it do not work in? |

Well I guess technically all the bulbs work just none work in that corner for some odd reason. I bought 4 led bulbs of the same type and manufacturer. Tried all four in that corner. None will work. Bump for more ideas.

Maybe contact the vendor who you bought the LED lights from? Surely you are not the first guy who has had this problem?
Maybe you need to change your "blinker fluid"? |

blinker fluid
contacted the vender already. Had the light sent back and tested. They sent me a brand new one. Just received it today. Went to install and same problem. Been using the other 3 in the other corners. All seem to be working fine. I have no clue |

Maybe try it in another car? Anyone local to you with the same car? Seems strange. Maybe you need to reverse the polarity in that corner's light bulb socket - in order for that LED to opperate. Maybe use a VOM and check the polarity in BOTH front corner lights. IF you can even get some test leads up in there? Sorry... I am out of ideas. I really think it is the poliarity of the wires - for LEDs to work/light up. Dackel |

VOM?...Wish there was someone local with the same car. Part of the reason I went with the one was the rarity of it. Got tired of everyone and there mother having a 3 series (my last car). Have only seen maybe a handful on the road since '08. I knew it would come back to bite me in the ass...Any local members want to give me a hand. I'm in the Queens, NY area.

VOM = Volt Ohm Meter
Use it to check that... the base of the bulb socket is ground and that the sides are positive(or is it vise versa?). Both front bulb sockets should be wired the same way. IF they are different (left to right corners)... than it could be that when your car was wired up... someone switched the two wires. For a normal bulb... it makes no difference at all - how the socket plug is wired up. However with a LED... it will only work one way. I think that is your problem. You could just try to swap out the two wires in that front corner socket that the LED doesn't work in. ??? I would not cut any wires though! Maybe you could go to an auto parts store and make yourself up an adaptor harness - plug & play - so to speak. You would probably have to buy a spare bulb and crush the bulb and use that socketbayonet and solder some wires inside of it to make your wiring harness up. Dackel |

Well I'm being sort of forced to buy a new set of headlights so I guess I'll try to see if it can come with a new wiring harness and check the current when I take the whole thing apart. Arghhhh...so fustrating. Why couldn't they just wire my car up properly.

Hey Dackelone,
Thanks for all the help. Turns out the polarities were reversed. When you said turn the bulb 180 degrees I was thinking to myself how the hell do I do that, the prongs are off center. Tried turning the whole socket and bam, I've got power. Thanks again man. I'm an idot Mod's close thread please...problem resolved |
