Remote stopped working!?

So I just went to pick up a parcel, and when I returned to the car the remote wouldn't work! I was able to lock the car, but when I came back about 2 minutes later none of the buttons on the remote worked.

So I took the key out and tried turning it in the driver's door, but nothing happened there either.

I tried the remote again and it still didn't work, then I tried the key again and it unlocked the driver's door. I needed to put stuff into the boot so I pressed the boot release button in the driver's footwell and that didn't work.

Was about to call BMW but had one last attempt, put the key back into the remote and pressed the boot release button there... voila! Open. And everything back to normal.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I am assuming you have comfort access and the battery has gone flat. To recharge the remote leave the key in the keyslot the next time you drive. From memory I believe it takes 2 hours to charge.

I don't have comfort access... and the car is 6 days old, so I don't think it needs charging yet? (I've done about 600km with the car already)

You cant recharge the key if you have Comfort access the same way as a normal key by inserting the fob in the dash carrier..

With CA you have to have the battery replaced..

Any transmission towers or microwave beacons nearby?

I was about 150m from the massive 7 ATN tower in Artarmon actually...

assuming that was a contributing factor, how would I avoid having this problem in the future? I was holding the remote right up to the car as I was pressing the buttons.

Alfoil.........lots and lots of alfoil.

A previous car of mine struggled around towers. I found a "sweet spot" near the front bumper that the key worked on every time when interference came into play (which was very rare).

A lot of car remotes can be interference by other wireless signal. My previous car, everytime park under the monorail in CBD the remote would fail. Try another location see if same thing happen.
