Windows wind half-way down when opening the door? [FIXED]

Usually when I open the door, the windows come down about a cm and rise up again when I close the door. However sometimes the window winds over half-way down (both driver and passenger doors). Why is this happening? Is there a setting I can change to 'fix' this behaviour?

edit: fixed by changing the unlock door setting from 'convenience' to 'drivers door'

The windows move about half a cm naturally, so when the door is closed again, the seal is kept in-tact. It's a very clever way to ensure the car windows are as watertight as possible for as long as possible!

If you put your windows all the way up before opening the door, then turn the car off completely, it will stay up when you re-open the door when you get back in

Yeah that would be normal operation; but sometimes, even if the doors were fully closed on the previous trip, instead of coming down just 5-10mm it will go over half-way down!!

This has happened to me also, only a handful of times in the last few months

the windows will go down halfway when you open the door when you press the unlock button twice which unlocks the passenger door and the boot as well. i think you can programme the key not to do this but i have never bothered.

I will have to play with the unlock settings... now that i think about it, this has only happened when i press the unlock button twice to open the passenger door as well. Thanks for the tip!

If it comes down halfway then your window motor's ECU is blow and it needs to get replaced. I just had mine replaced and and the issue went away. If it only pops down a few mm then dont worry about it. Its normal.

I've been wondering this too. I knew that you needed to press the button twice, but couldn't quite work out what this feature is for. I just put it down to German engineers with too much time on their hands.

While on features I haven't quite worked out yet, how do you get the headlight washers to come on? They seem to come on randomly whenever I use the windscreen washers.

Also, is there a way to change the date reading on the audio headunit so that it reads in an Australian way (ie. 6/10/09 instead of 10/6/09)?

the headlight washers seem to be on a counter or timer, they are totally random to me. they just hide under those covers and come out when they want.

Window half-way down --- it'll do it when you press unlock twice. You can change the unlock setting to unlock everything with one press. So you can have the passenger door unlocked without the window coming half -way down.

Headlight washers --- you activate them when you wash the windscreen, and the headlights are also on.

Sadly no business or professional nav in my lil' car. I guess I'll just get used to be reading the date like an American.

I just found it on page 27 the door unlock setting had 3 settings, sth like:
1) all doors
2) driver's door
3) convenience

changed it from 3 to 2 and all is well!!

It is definatley a setting that can be changed. I played with all the settings when i got the car, inface i think my hubby has this setting on his key. Its soo annoying if he uses it. I turned it off straight away my key setup.

you beat me to it. I think it even says in there that the feature is there to allow for more room to get in/out of the car in a cramped spot. I like the feature - it stops passengers from closing the door by pushing/pulling on the glass (leaving fingerprints everywhere) instead of the door itself.

does it say anything about headlight washers, they are definately on some kind of counter even with the headlights on.

Yes my mind is saying to itself over and over again

Curious though, how would winding the windows down help in a cramped spot? If there is a car next to you, ........ OHH I see now.

I hate the headlight washer sprays. You clean the car, have the driving lights on. quick spray to clean the windscreen and bam, water all over the car from the headlights
