Dealership said my car doesn't need run in service
I knew my car would hit the 1200 mile mark this past weekend which it did easily so i scheduled the run in service for this morning. I was unable to bring the car so my brother did me the favor, he had to do the same thing with his e92 so this is nothing new to him. Well he brought the car and the service department said there is no 1200 mile service for this car. Of course he questioned it (since we know they're wrong), talked to the M mechanic and shop foreman and they all said the same thing.
I know there's tons of threads on here about the run in service and the issues with the wrong fluids but i haven't heard this yet. These are the only explanations i can think of... The car was at the dealership for months before the deal was made and I remember reading on here about the initial service being time dependent, 3 months after the production date, so i thought maybe the light came on while it was sitting at the dealership and they did it already but they're not saying that. Or they're not doing it because the light isn't on telling them to even though the car has 1450 miles on it The service light hasn't come on which is another mystery but i figured once the car has 1200 miles whats the difference. Helpful thread http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...0+mile+service |

BS by your dealer. All M cars require it. I think the most important thing is the diff fluid but oil, trans, and diff are all to be changed at or around 1200 miles.

All correct with the exception of transmission fluid. The bulletin specifies that only oil and differential fluids are to be changed. Transmission fluid is to be changed on the third service (~30200 miles).

And this is precisely why...even if I hadn't left Long Island, I would definitely steer clear of them. At least in the 90's and early 2000's, overpriced and under-informed. Perhaps that has changed.

That level of ignorance is so alarming, I'd hesitate to even use that dealership for service.

I'm curious, when you start up your car, how long does it say until your next service? If you have navigation, you can also see it in the navigation menu (I forget where).
I ask because the service may have already been done, as you said, the car sat there for months. They may be saying you don't need it because the car says you don't need it, because it's already been done. |

For example my 1M was produced in week 25 and "warned" that it had to be serviced ...while it was still on static display over the Summer at the dealership with only 12km on the odometer. Thus, not delivered yet and already due for service?! I noticed the warning during delivery (week 38) and the dealer explained that what counts is approaching or passing the 2000km/1200miles mark. Like Indiana Jones said: "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage." |
