Meet "Klumpen"
It's taken a while, and I only have one, but here's the obligatory photo of our newest family member.
We always name our cars. When I tried to come up with a name, I though - what's a single word that captures the spirit, feel and appearance of this awesome car? It's tough, it's compact, it's very robust, etc, etc, etc. And the word NUGGET came to mind - as in "He's a bit of a nugget". And the German word for nugget is -- "KLUMPEN". So this is KLUMPEN! |

No. The cooler is behind the central grill, in front of the radiator on a 135i. On a 125i the central grill is for the radiator cooling only as obviously no cooler. This is in addition to the cooling it receives from the kidney grills. The drivers side of the car on a 135i has an oil cooler behind it rather than a fog light

[QUOTE=Zuzu;5566826]Where do you start...
How about a simple concise version ? I thought the difference was only $17k for the engine according to reviews I read...and at the risk of being a REAL Newbie, is the 128 ( USA ) the same as the 125? |

To be honest, I don't know every difference as I haven't taken a good look at the 125i, which, yes, is the 128i in the US.
The engine is obviously a substantial difference and to make matters more confusing, the 125i coupe/vert has a 3.0L NA 6 which puts out 160kw while the 3.0L NA 6 in the 130i hatch puts out 195kw. I understood these to be the same engine (bar output obviously). Again, I'm not sure on the exact specs but things that may be different include suspension (M-sport or not), alloys, seats (electric vs not), brakes (6 piston vs not)...really not sure.

I think you will find that the 130i hatch engine is the same as the US 128i coupe. Where the AUS 125i coupe is a detuned version of the 130i/128i engines...
Anyone care to correct me if I am wrong.. |

its all a bit confusing really... but this is what i thought to be the case.
both the 128i (US spec) and the 125i have detuned versions of the 130i. 130i = 195kw 315Nm 128i = 169kw 271Nm 125i = 160kw 270Nm now i read that (cant remember where, and cant really confirm it one bit) that the 125i and 130i share the same three stage intake manifold, where as the 128i has a single stage intake manifold. 135i has a totally different engine... |

i also believe that if you get the msport pack, the suspension set up between the 135i and 125i is identical.
brakes are obviously different, 135i comes with electric seats standard, where as it is an option on the 125i obviously everything that goes along with the 135i drive train is different to that of the 125i... |

One's a five door hatch, one's a two door coupe/vert!

The 128i and the 125i are the same car and both produce about 220 HP. The 130i has a different variant of the N52 motor producing more along the lines of 260 HP.

Yes, I realise that. However, my point remains, one car is a hatch, the other a coupe. You can't directly compare why he bought the coupe and not the hatch based on engine output. The coupe is a stylish two door sports car, the 130i is a practical 4 door with a boot than happens to go like the proverbial! You pay a price for the coupe body form. All coupe's across the bmw range are more expensive than their 4 door brethren!
