Gains with PE

What do you gain from upgrading to the PE on a 2012 135i?

BMW advertises +5hp, but it's been discarded by dyno runs. However I have to say I felt a slight increase in power in mid-range, and a little better throttle response, but maybe that's just me

Curious to see what others have experienced.

Curious also what others are experiencing with the PE. I have an '08 with N54. Don't know if the gains are any different.

What's with all these threads about PE exhaust lately comparing it to others an power blah blah. Sorry man not hating on your thread but theres been so many of these kind lately it seems. But honestly the gains from any exhaust will be minimal. Downpipes is where it's at.

Customizing ur sound to what u like. The flap on the stock exhaust is almost always wide open,,,especially when WOT,,,not much gains but will help somewhat when u add other mods that require less back pressure

The actuator flap controls volume not back pressure. Back pressure is an old wives tale on modern cars and turbocharged cars pretty much want as much free flow as possible anyways.

Exhaust gives you sound and in some cases quicker turbo spool (though not with the PE though I believe.)

This thread helped me out. I like the sound of the stock exhaust and would probably like the sound of the PE. But if I get no gain, not interested for $1250.
My mods are now complete.

I asked a dealer tech the same question. His exact words; "no gains, just sound. Diameter of the piping is the same as OEM".

Def agree in principle, main point,,u wont go faster but will sound better,,and the flap on the stock exhaust whether it controls volume or back pressure is almost always non restrictive,,,more volume? less pressure? not sure but Im sure volume is in the calculation of pressure,,,either way,,,PR wont make u need tires every month,,,just sound awesome while u enjoy some speed that was already there.

Yep, a guy a t work with his '05 Viper will stand in the lot and look at my 1, when I fire it up.
I have no freaking idea what he is thinking, but I guess it sounds better than his viper!
And yes, he's done this regularly.
What a hoot.

Golf tee mod is free if you unplug the wire connection.

The PE makes the best damm sounds you can imagine. You really need to hear one in person to decide. It won't make much extra Hp, but ohh what a glorious sound it makes. Especially the pops and crackles.

This.

I was at a Pistonheads forum gathering yesterday, and even in company with lots of exotica, I had favourable comments about the sound my 135 made with the PE...

Best exhaust sound... Catless DP's, Stock N54 MP, and Berk Race Axel Back FTW.

I have had 6 Vipers over the years so I know what he is thinking, especially if he has the stock exhaust...the V10 sound is strange, especially with the side pipes. I had a Corsa exhaust on my last one and it really made a difference in improving the sound quality. I have the Berk Race on my 135i, which was a must IMO.

^ Initially I didn't like the Berk Race, but with the right combination of DP's and MP's it produces a beautiful sound.
