Premature tire wear
Hello: I installed new 225/40 - 18 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 tires on May 13 at 188,000 k. Yesterday I changed to snow tires and noticed the rears only are almost down to the wear bars. 20,000k total. The main reason I went with the AS3 was for the durability. Should I have used the proper size in the rear? I think it was 245/35.
thanks, Jack |

Are you driving a 128 or 135? The stock size on the 128 with sport package is 205/50/17 front, 225/45/17 rear.
With that high a mileage, when was the last time the car was aligned? |

Agree with alignment, too much toe will grind them down quickly.

Getting 20K out of the rears is normal. Welcome to the tire eating club buddy.

If you aren't able to rotate your tires, then 20k is not too bad.

I think it will depend on what wheel size you will run. ?
I'm no tire expert... but probably a 225, 235 or 245 setup would work well. Again... depending on your wheel size and width. I would contact Gary@TireRack or Ben@TireRack Dackel
