Can a bov damage the 1 with a stock boost?

I'm planning to go for JB+ and a bov (If there's a good price around) ! Before I get the JB+, can the bov/charge pipe damage the car with stock psi???

Im not an expert yet, but from what I know, the BOV is just an alternate route for the boosted air to travel, in other words, the air is 'blown off' rather then diverted thru the system. Blowing it off creates faster spooling and a bit more torque depending on ur setup and as long as your valve does not leak. A bov/chargepipe setup should work fine stock or modded, although it will show its true colors more with added boost and other mods.

I am tentatively planning on a Cp-e chargepipe/HKS BOV setup a lil later on after I install my Maddad exhaust and JB+. My first stage of mods will consist of cool carbon brake pads, the Maddad downpipe back system and the JB+ (min.). Then my second stage will consist of an HPF FMIC, setting the JB+ to 50% and the BOV setup if I decide to go with it, im just a little weary about the dealer giving me shit for it if I ever need warranty work, not as worried bout the exhaust or FMIC.

End all, the upgraded SS chargepipe BOV setup will def handle higher boost much better, no pipe flex, no leakage, and much less boost air travel. I think its worth it, specially if ull be adding more boost later.

Thx for the Info, but I don't understand on the stock charge pipe there's a airflow turbulence pipe/resonator, i did some research and it seems like the aftermarket charge pipe will delete the resonator according to the aftermarket site picture, so does the stock resonator lead air from the charge pipe to somewhere ells or does it just end after the resonator??? Also some people said we'r running MAF and some said MAP...which is correct?

With ANY diverter valve setup, the boost pressure is cycled thru the manifolds and back thru the turbos, recycling the same boosted air, it works with a typical turbo setup but it just causes slightly longer turbo spools, etc. etc.

Imagine the DV setup as a circle, and the BOV as a one way street where the pressure exits to atmosphere. The stock resonator is just to suppress whatever boost pressure noises the car may have. Same deal as the resonators in the exhaust and mufflers, made to muffle the noise and will also slow down air exiting the system.

Basically, the BOV is not necessary, the car does fine without it, but once u add mods and more boost, etc. its recommended and the car will boost smooth and without leakage with a good SS chargepipe/BOV setup. Will also hear the pressure release a good bit more

I dunno, im no expert, this is just mainly what ive picked up from owning two turbocharged cars and running around on forums. etc.

Cool! I was thinking of going for the CP-e as well, but I hear that the Cp-e chargepipe is 2.5" thick when stock and other aftermarkets are 3", to me that seems like it could be an issue! + I can't decide between HKS and Tial Q Blow Off Valve, wt's the difference other than sound, and wt's the reason of choosing either one?? = I haven't decide anything yet lol, fail on charge pipe and fail on bov.

Well the one main reason I usually looked at the Cp-e was the valve placement is lower on the pipe making it easier to use with the stock airbox. The ER chargepipe looks nice as well, it is 3" although im not sure if that makes a difference or not compared to the 2.5" Cp-e pipe.

The HKS sequential BOV is pretty much guaranteed not to leak like some other BOV's do, theres also no internal springs like the Tial valve, so basically the HKS valve is less mechanical and without leakage and great sound.

Anyone else can chime in here anytime to input info if they like

THe cpe pipe is 3 inches all the way through guys. The 2.5 pipe is an old design, I know for a fact as I've had both. Also the new pipe is powercoated black.

That's just the "sound tube." It's so more on the engine sound makes it into the passenger compartment.

actually I think its the opposite. Its a silencer so more sound doesn't make it into the compartment.....i think. lol Either way, its useless and makes the tmap a pita to get too lol.

Then why does Cp-e still list its only chargepipe for the N54 as 2.5" on their site still..?

Looks like a 3" entry where the TB is then it shrinks down to 2.5" to connect with the IC piping.

Its a sound generator you have circled. With the BMW Performance pack they fit a new one too that's even louder, so yu get a bit more induction type noise. If you look inside it you will see it is blanked off very soon after the short rubber pipe ends. In some N/A BMW cars with this fitted they open it up and remove some foam wadding and they it's VERY loud.

I understand what you mean, but after you remove that then there will be a large hole left behind the charge pipe! and it's at least 3" thick..don't think there's any auto parts that can close it out...

Leave it on, it doesn't affect performance and make the engine sound nicer. When I had the Riss Racing Charge pipe it was supplied with a rubber blanking plug that went over the hole.

I now run my own "Modified" chrage pipe with FORGE DDV's and the sound generation still fitted. if yu seach the forums you will find the mods I did to the Stock charge pipe to improve it.

An open tube leading to the intake manifold will definitely increase the sound. Look it up on RealOEM; it's call the "sound generator."
