Open deck design is going to make it difficult to boost beyond a certain point in a forced induction application. Not that I would.

Looking at the pics again, does anyone know if there's any way that BMW can push it to 3.5L?
As in the much-talked-about 335i? It sure doen't seem possible to me on this casting, so BMW must be planning a newer bigger casting for the 3.5L...
