Spoiler "Stain" After Removal

After I removed my little trunk spoiler, I was able to get all the 3M residue off. However, there is a matte silver line where the tape was on the paint. Goo Gone or alcohol do not remove this stain that was left from the 3M adhesive. When I run my finger across it, I can't feel it at all. Did it go through the clearcoat? What is my solution? Just a good polish or do I need to get more serious with a rubbing compound?

I would try a mild polish like 3M's Finese-It.

How do you go about removing the spoiler in the first place?
Just got a call from my BMW dealer saying they can't fit my new CF spoiler for me as they don't know how to remove the original.

Might be a bit late but if you haven't removed it yet, here's a great DIY.

Thanks for the link but it came off very easily with the dental floss and glue remover. The problem now is deciding to fit the spoiler or not. I'm enjoying the clean lines without anything on the boot lid.

Keep it as it is until you get bored and want to add the spoiler Easier to add than remove!

I'm really struggling to remove the 3M adhesive - particularly the smooth black surface of the tape that's directly on the clear coat. I've used Goo-Gone and a microfibre towel, but didn't want to rub too hard as I was marring the surface (and will need to polish to clean it up). Any suggestions on how best to get the residual adhesive off?

Cheers,
Bryan

It comes in a liquid bottle or in a spray.

Thanks. I'll try to find some locally. Goo-Gone hasn't been cutting it...

Cheers,
Bryan
