Wow, that's a great looking machine. It's better than I originally thought.

I dont like that back in the pictures i would have to see it in person. I wish it had the e90 rear on it and then i would love it. Chris

I'm amazed but based on those pics I actually think I like the sedan styling better than the coupe. That's a first for me.

In medical aesthetics when comparing female and male anatomy, the idealized female brow has a gentle gull-wing shape, much like the top of the e90's headlight. The idealized male brow, positioned at the bony (supraorbital) rim has an almost horizontal shape as in the e92. The omission of the 6-series styled chromed kidney grille tops makes the car look wider and more purposeful with fewer frills. The kidney grille starts to loop inward (concave inward) as it curves up toward the hoodline on the e92. On the e90, the kidney grille simply progresses upward and meets the straight, horizontal chrome tops. IMO, the most interesting styling difference is where the sculpted lines on the hood end up as they move forward. In the e90, these lines meet up near the inner edges of our headlights. In the new e92 design, they interesect the top sides of the kidney grilles. Very nice! The overall effect of this makes the front of the car appear more round (less rectangular). Roundness is good as I love the round Z3 design. Another change that makes the car look more round is the center portion of the e92 bumper. Look at the center bumper area of the e90; it is recessed (concave) rearward. In the e92, the center portion of the bumper protrudes (convex forward). This makes the middle portion of the car protrude (i.e., makes it again look rounder) Summarizing, my overall analysis of the front styling gives the e92 a more masculine, wide and purposeful, yet softer appearance. The design changes are subtle, clean and beautify the front end with freshened sculpting. |

Not quite as clear as BMW official pics usually are. So when is BMW releasing them ?

330i upgraded? (vs. 335)
Hey all,
I have been lurking on this board now for some months reading all the info I could find about the upcoming 335. I've thoroughly enjoyed everyone's contributions! It looks as if we finally have some kind of official confirmation with the 335, but what got my attention was the bit about the 330i having 272 horsepower! I have often thought that the 2007 330 would get a slight bump since the 1 series with the same uptuned engine gets something in the 260-ish range, but I didn't anticipate them getting into the 270's with only better tuning! They list a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds and I was thinking that was pretty close to the current time using a manual, so I was wondering if: -The 6.1 seconds refers to the automatic? -OR The added horsepower doesn't add much of anything in terms of 0-60 performance I would expect with a 15 or so horsepower increase you would see a .1 or .2 second difference in 0-60 times, but maybe I'm being optimistic? It would be great if the new 330i with 272 hp made 0-60 in 6.1 seconds with an automatic! I would then have to reconsider if the extra 3K, 5K or 7K would be worth the extra power in the 335i. (I am assuming of course that the sedan version of the 335 will be appearing sometime this year as well. Could be a bad assumtion.) Also, depending on the price difference between the 330i and 335i sedan, we could be looking at $1K marginal cost per tenth of a second 0-60 performance. That's pretty steep! I mean, that could buy a nice plasma tv! |

I think I like the sedan better as well, feels a bit more agressive looking. Oddly enough.

I think initial criticism would be because the final design of the e92 is decidedly more mature, sober and upright...a luxury-coupe look closer in spirit to the 850Ci. This would be a departure from the e46 coupe which manages to always look the business (i.e. sporty) regardless of trim/equipment/model.
This may have stemmed from their stillborn 4-series direction. I think the e92 looks like a winner and will be my next bimmer in a couple of years.

haha that's true. I guess I'm just tired of the totally off-base comments like "it looks like an Accord" or "It looks like a Civic". Gimme a break. And people acting like the tails were taken from anywhere besides the 7...where the resemblence is brutally obvious. And the sedan is more aggressive looking? Cmon now... You can not like the look of a car of course...but certain comparisons are just ridiculous. |

I was just giving my initial impressions based on the photos shown. The rear end somehow doesn't seem balanced with the front end. When viewed from the side it's almost appears tear drop shaped creating the illusion of a large front end with a tiny butt .
That said, I'm sure the design will begin to grow on me over time as we see more iterations of the E92. I can't imagine that it's even possible for BMW to create an M3 coupe that I won't lust after.
