Remember though that BMW doesn't manufacture or import these cars from the US. They're coming from Europe. The Euro has taken quite a hit recently, so I don't see them lowering prices anytime soon (if anything, US prices will be coming UP, as will Audi and Mercedes' as well).

I'm no economics major but the Canadian market is much smaller than the US market, less volume sales, less competition to drive prices down. Maybe there are differences in taxation and whatnot that make it harder for dealers to profit also? I don't think the value of our currency against the greenback is the sole deciding factor though certainly it'd be nice to see *some* price adjustment but I wouldn't dream that the prices would come down and match those across the border. Plus I assume the cars that are already on the dealer's lot are already paid for...how can they make a profit if they suddenly have to adjust their prices to change in currency?

i know Canadian market is 1/10 of US Market. Like Lucky1 said, all the cars parked on the dealer's lot are already paid. I do not have a solution yet, if I do, I will certainly try to talk to BMW Canada directly. but I was hoping to see some change, since today is not same as yesterday.

I wouldn't hold your breath, but the current price differential certainly does not make sense. Some time ago, I compared Audi and Lexus's Canadian to American price ratio and they weren't nearly as bad as the 1 series I had spec'd out. It's insane.
It was actually the final straw that killed my 1 series purchase. As with most of us, I live pretty close to the border and I'm not yet rolling in enough cash that I don't mind throwing an extra 25%+ to BMW just because they are choosing to gouge Canadians. 10-15% I could deal with. 25-30% premium over the American pricing is crazy. With every model year I'm hoping they will narrow the difference. |

Let me quickly repeat the exercise and illustrate what I mean. Certainly not a complete study as I am just choosing some random models, but it certainly seems that BMW is above average with their Canadian premium. That was the gist I got before. The packages suck here as well.
Looking only at base prices, and noting that BMW in the states is giving out free leather: 135i USA Base - $36050 (incl. leather) 135i CAN Base - $43000 (+$1900 for leather) 19.3% premium not considering leather 24.5% w/ leather M3 USA Base - $55400 M3 CAN Base - $69900 26% premium in Canada Lexus IS F USA Base - $59335 Lexus IS F CAN Base - $68000 14.6% premium in Canada Lexus IS 350 USA Base - $38470 Lexus IS 350 CAN Base - $45900 19.3% premium in Canada Audi S4 USA Base - $45900 Audi S4 CAN Base - $52500 14.4% premium in Canada |

Shut up Canadians, you should be used to it by now. Being taxed and all, not getting the best returns for our dollars of taxation.

hey i notice a lot of Canadian posters in this thread also drive a 128i lol
is it because of the 7k price difference? (EDIT: also because the Canadian 135i doesn't have a standard sunroof, free leather and the 128i has Xenon standard) Last edited by Raine; 07-27-2010 at 09:13 PM.. |

I like my US spec 135i. saved about $25K.
I laughed in the face of the dealer for a bare bones 135i. This one I have now has literaly everything I want cept for antitheft, and the one bluetooth option. Go over the border much easier then you think. |

On paper it is certainly tempting. The car is way cheaper and has better specs. Despite looking like a bit of a beast, it's only 160lbs heavier than a 135i.
I can't help but think it's really just straight line fast, though...I'll have to wait and drive one. But at the end of the day, I don't think I could see myself behind the wheel of a mustang. |
