The major components of our cars that'll wear and fail; water pump, t-stat, starter + solenoid, diff, trans, rear subframe, motor mounts, etc. are shared with the E90 vehicles, of which hundreds of thousands of those were made – and like the E30, E36, and E46 before it – parts will be around for a long time into the future...

Didn't realize the rear sunshades where already NLA. I have a set I may part with.

The aero bumpers and performance parts will be unobtainable pretty soon. I snagged a performance exhaust as soon as I could when I bought my car a couple years ago.

I'd definitely be interested in those.

Has anyone compared the BMW trunk liner with the one offered by WeatherTech? The latter costs more, but seems a bit sturdier and won’t let things slide around.

rear shocks

I'm doing rear shocks, using Koni STR-T which I suspect is at the low end of the quality scale. According to realoem.com, 1 series rear shocks are unique to the 1 series. As such, I can't see Koni, Bilstein, etc keep making replacements after about another 10 years or so. Install pieces [upper/lower shock mounts/bump stops] may also become difficult to obtain.

While the shock(body) is specific to the e8x chassis, the shock's mounting parts(upper and lower) are not. They are shared on all non M e9x cars.

Meyle, Lemforder, SKF and Febi-Bilstein make tons of the suspension mounting parts. I don't think there will be any shortage of parts for our cars anytime soon.

In Germany a car manufacturer, has to keep parts for a car for the first ten years. After that it's up to the manufacture to keep popular parts for a car model. Even then, BMW Classic can help for hard to find parts. In some cases... various BMW Clubs have asked BMW Classic to start a small production of parts for a specific model - and have ppl at a BMW car club handle the particulars. I remember talking to a guy at the Techno Classic show how BMW Classic did this for chrome bumpers for '02 cars. They made a small batch just for club members - at a discount and then what was left over Classic sold themselves.
