Just checking back in on this thread. I like seeing what things other folks have discovered.

Re: the vent. Is this just if you have Nav to control? Not sure where I would be able to select this.

This one was discovered by forum fellow Tom303 (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showpost.php?p=12850245): a hidden storage area under the trunk felt pad above the battery compartment.

Forum fellow Derek8819 pointed out that, on former 1ers, this space was used for installation of add-on modules (such as SATNAV and Bluetooth). In the 1M these devices, if chosen as option, are installed in the head unit. Hence, consider it as the fringe benefit of a secret pocket (which is eventually related to the 'drone sound' syndrome).

Thought that the "Satellite images" feature was not operational in my SatNav version. Tried it the first days after haven taken delivery but noticed no map layout change.

However, found out that that feature is definitely operational on our SatNavs: you got to set the map scale to at least 2km/1mile.

Nice look and feel and more pleasant during drives in the dark.

When navigation map is showing:
  • click the "OPTION" button under the iDrive controller
  • select "Settings"
  • select "Satellite images"
  • click "NAV" button on the iDrive controller
  • set the scale to at least 2km/1mile
Hm, I should have read the 2012 manual (BMW 128i/135i Owner's Manual 2012 (USA), page 137 - http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...82&postcount=1):
------------------
"Satellite images"
Depending on the availability and resolution, satellite images are displayed in scales of approx. 1 mile to 600 miles / 2 km to 1,000 km.

Would have been nice if BMW had equipped also the 1M with a boot lid opening button.

No 1M only hidden gem, but those with the BMW SATNAV might not be aware of this feature: the SATNAV contains several pre-programmed journeys, called "Guided Tour".
Just select the tour you like and you're ready to go.

Ok. So anyone notice (NA Cars) that when you turn the turn signal on it also lights up the city light on the interior headlight (of which the turn signal is on) for about 5 seconds and then it turns off? I never noticed it until about two weeks ago....

Also do your trunk lid buttons work on your remotes? Cause mine don't...maybe I have the valet switch off in the glove box?

Have you tried pressing it for about a second instead of just clicking it once? First day i got mine, I also thought my remote didnt work for exactly that reason.

edit: on the car not stalling in first: this is due to there not being a lot of torque required to keep the car moving.
As has been aptly noted, each time you select a higher gear to try this with, it gets tougher.
The minimum required amount of torque at idle rpm keeps growing for each subsequent gear you pick.
Car can't deliver that torque = you stall.

If your car doesnt do this, it will also be a pain to simply get moving from a standstill, which is exactly what 1st gear is for and why it does it so well
Not trying to have a last word here but instead give a tiny bit of insight on the actual mechanics behind it

Thanks & welcome, fellow countryman.

Check whether your 1M features already in this list:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=259

And feel free to let me know the color of your 1M, so that I can add you to this list:

Thanks for the welcome, my fellow BB member!
As mine is a German import and still awaiting it's new Belgian plates, I doubt it.

Though this of course means we have shifted the balance of ownership per capita a tad more in favour of Belgium again

Colour is BSM, will post in appropriate threads asap

In 1Ms featuring CIC (Car Infotainment Computer) the glovebox features a USB port too, to be distinguished from the USB port under the armrest between the front seats:
  • USB port inside the glovebox: SATNAV map updates, sound import to HDD and route/itinerary import;
  • USB port under the armrest between the front seats: direct sound playback only.

how do you do a route import? I've never done that but would like to. Maybe I should read the manual? lol

Forum fellow "Mr Kleen" knows how to code itineraries, because he made the ones I imported into my SATNAV and they work. See: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=24

As indicated earlier, some "Guided Tours" are pre-programmed by BMW into the SATNAV: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=899333

Is this one of you serious track guys, gauging the engine oil with your tongue? Or am I missing something?

Boost gauge, though that's a pretty sloppy way of doing it. There's a grommet through the firewall to route internally.

Here's the constant speed indicated by the OBC during cruising without using pedals:
  • 1st gear cruising = 5mph or 9kph (appropriate speed for slow queuing in rush hour traffic);
  • 2nd gear cruising = 9mph or 15kph (appropriate speed for checking out available parking spots);
  • 3nd gear cruising = 13mph or 21kph (do mind that the engine does not like this);
  • 4th-5th-6th gear cruising = nah, won't try that.
And to negotiate a sharp corner during the cruising, don't brake but just push the clutch + release after the corner to let the cruising automatically resume (+ some acceleration if things go to slow to your liking).
Thanks so much for your original and follow-up posts on the subject if in-gear coasting. I have extensively used the feature in 6 months of Japan driving and the inevitable traffic. It is a clutch and knee saver I never would have known about otherwise. The last manual cars I owned were an '80s rabbit and a '71 240z. They definitely did not have this feature.
